Russia Launches Massive Missile and Drone Attack on Ukraine

New Delhi : Russia launched a significant missile and drone attack on several Ukrainian cities this morning, involving over 100 missiles and more than 100 drones. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the extensive assault, which has caused substantial destruction and power outages across Ukraine.

The attack targeted energy infrastructure, including electrical substations in Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Dnipro, Poltava, Mykolaiv, Kirovohrad, and Odesa. Gas compressor stations and transportation systems in Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Kharkiv were also hit. In addition, airfields and weapons depots in Kyiv and Dnipro were targeted. The assault has left large areas of Ukraine without electricity, halted railway transport, and resulted in significant damage to weapons depots.

Zelensky reported that the Ukrainian army is making progress in the Kursk region of Russia, while Russian forces have advanced into the eastern region of Ukraine, leading to the closure of the transport hub in Pokrovsk. In response to the attack, Zelensky has called on his allies to continue supplying air defense systems and other missiles. He also urged countries supporting Ukraine to enter into a joint air defense agreement to better intercept Russian drones and missiles.

Ukraine’s air defense system reportedly managed to shoot down 15 Russian missiles and drones, but the scale of the attack has been severe. Zelensky condemned the use of Shahed drones and described Russian President Vladimir Putin as a “sick person.” He expressed his condolences to the victims and criticized the international community for not taking more decisive action against Russian aggression.

The attack, described by Zelensky as one of the largest of its kind, resulted in the deaths of at least four people and caused power outages in several cities. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal reported that 15 regions were targeted, and emergency power cuts were implemented to stabilize the power system.

Ukraine’s Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko stated that the energy sector was heavily targeted, and the extent of the damage is still being assessed. Deaths have been reported in the Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Volyn, and Zhytomyr regions, with injuries reported in the Poltava region.

Zelensky urged Western nations, including America, Britain, and France, to take decisive action to halt Russian terror and support Ukraine’s defense efforts.
