25 Soldiers Killed, Over 30 Injured in Missile Strike on Military Base in Yemen

Oct 2026 : At least 25 soldiers were killed and more than 30 others injured on Monday after three missiles struck a government military training base in Yemen’s southeastern province of Shabwa, according to a government military official and a local medical source cited by Xinhua News Agency.

The missiles targeted Al-Alam military base in Jardan district, near the provincial capital, Ataq. A local military official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the attack struck a training camp within the facility and blamed the Houthi group. However, the Houthis had not claimed responsibility for the strike.

Footage circulating on social media showed numerous casualties at the site. A local medical source said the casualty figures were preliminary and could rise as rescue and evacuation operations continued. Emergency and medical teams were transporting the injured to hospitals across Shabwa, while badly burned bodies recovered from the camp complicated efforts to establish the final death toll.

Al-Alam is a major military facility used by forces aligned with Yemen’s internationally recognised government, which receives support from the Saudi Arabia-led coalition.

The missile strike came amid escalating clashes between Houthi fighters and government forces backed by the coalition across several fronts in Yemen, highlighting the continuing instability in the war-torn country.

On Sunday, fierce fighting broke out near the strategically important Bab al-Mandeb Strait, where government forces launched a fresh offensive against Houthi positions, a government military official told Xinhua.

According to the official, units from the Giants Brigades and Nation Shield Forces advanced from multiple directions in an effort to capture key Houthi-held positions overlooking approaches to the strait. The offensive encountered strong resistance from Houthi fighters positioned in fortified locations and trenches.

Extensive minefields further complicated the advance, slowing government forces as they attempted to penetrate the Houthi defensive lines.

“The fighting is among the fiercest we have seen in the area,” the official said, describing the Houthis as heavily entrenched and the government troops as attempting to break through their defences.

The official also said Houthi fighters had deployed fibre-optic-guided first-person-view kamikaze drones, known as “Shawaz”, against advancing government troops.

The latest developments underscore the intensifying military confrontation in Yemen, where fighting around strategic locations continues to threaten security and complicate efforts to stabilise the country.
