Mumbai, Sept 2026 : Megastar Amitabh Bachchan on Monday night put an end to speculation about his retirement, clarifying that he has no plans to step away from work anytime soon.
The veteran actor addressed the speculation through his personal blog after one of his recent posts was interpreted as a possible indication that he was considering retiring from his professional commitments.
Clarifying his earlier remark, Bachchan wrote in Hindi, which translates into English as: “No, sir, I am not retiring from work; in English, it means I am now going to sleep!!! And, sir, you are not invited to come there.”
The clarification came after his previous blog post sparked discussion among fans and social media users. In that entry, the actor had reflected on how his blog posts are sometimes misunderstood and expressed amusement at the way his words are interpreted and subsequently reported.
Bachchan had ended that particular post with the words “and I retire”, leading some readers to believe that he was referring to his acting career.
However, in his latest post, the 83-year-old actor made it clear that the word “retire” was used in the context of going to bed and had nothing to do with ending his acting career or withdrawing from professional commitments.
The clarification comes as Bachchan continues to maintain an active work schedule despite his age. He is currently hosting the 18th season of the popular television quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), a programme with which he has been associated for more than two decades.
The actor has also recently used his blog to give fans an insight into the demanding nature of his professional routine.
In one of his posts, Bachchan revealed that he had worked continuously from 7 a.m. on one day until 7 a.m. the following morning. He explained that the demanding schedule was necessary to complete the work on time, particularly because the first broadcast date for the latest season of KBC had already been announced.
Known for his disciplined approach to work, Bachchan has continued to remain active across television, films and other professional engagements.
His latest clarification is expected to put to rest the retirement speculation triggered by his earlier blog post. Rather than announcing an end to his career, the actor was simply referring to retiring for the night.
Bachchan’s comments also highlight how his candid and often cryptic blog posts can sometimes generate speculation, particularly when individual lines are interpreted without their wider context.
For now, the megastar has made his position clear: retirement from work is not on his immediate agenda.
