Mumbai, Aug 2026 : Bollywood veteran Amitabh Bachchan recently praised the courage, perseverance and resilience of Dr Prachi Rathod during an emotional interaction on the quiz-based reality show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ Season 18.
During the latest episode, Prachi spoke openly about her journey of gender transition and the numerous social and professional challenges she encountered while pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor. Her story moved Bachchan, who applauded her determination to overcome discrimination and continue her education despite difficult circumstances.
During the conversation, Bachchan asked Prachi about the people who supported her during her transition. She explained that her family had initially stood by her throughout her childhood and education. However, when she eventually told them about her decision to undergo gender transition, she faced difficulty in gaining their acceptance.
Prachi said she subsequently found a second family within the transgender community in Hyderabad, where six ‘havelis’, or transgender communities, live. She said she was accepted by one of the largest communities among them and received encouragement to continue her education and pursue her ambitions.
“Sir, obviously, ever since childhood, until I told my family that I wanted to undergo this transformation, my parents, siblings and the entire family were there for me. But somewhere, they refused to accept me,” Prachi said.
She recalled how the transgender community encouraged her to continue studying and fulfil the dreams her father had for her. According to Prachi, members of the community assured her that they would remain beside her and support her throughout her journey.
She described the six transgender communities in Hyderabad as her first family and said their encouragement gave her the confidence to move forward.
Prachi also spoke about the difficulties she faced while looking for employment after her transition. She said she submitted resumes, attended interviews and made repeated efforts to secure a job, but often encountered rejection that she believed was linked to her gender identity.
“I also tried very hard to find a job. I applied with my resume, went for interviews and made every effort, but somewhere, because of my gender, people refused to accept me,” she said.
Despite these obstacles, Prachi continued her medical education and eventually became a practicing doctor. Her journey from facing social rejection to establishing herself professionally became the central focus of her conversation with Bachchan.
The veteran actor congratulated her for refusing to allow adversity to stop her progress. He said he admired the fact that she had openly spoken about her experiences and embraced the changes in her life while continuing to move ahead.
“Prachiji, we can understand that you have faced many difficulties in your life. But what I admire is that you never hesitated to tell the world about what happened to you,” Bachchan said.
He further praised Prachi for completing her education and becoming a doctor who now treats people.
Bachchan’s words highlighted the importance of perseverance in overcoming social barriers and pursuing one’s aspirations despite discrimination and adversity.
