BJP Chief Nitin Nabin Targets Congress Over Constitution, Emergency and Democracy

RANCHI, Oct 2026 : BJP president Nitin Nabin on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Congress, accusing the party of disregarding the Constitution and governing the country according to its own wishes during its time in power.

Nabin, who is on a three-day visit to Jharkhand, was addressing party leaders and workers at the inaugural session of the BJP's state executive committee meeting in Ranchi.

He alleged that the Congress had undermined constitutional institutions and democratic principles, citing the imposition of the Emergency and the use of President's Rule in several states as examples.

“From imposing Emergency to President's Rule in many states, Congress never followed the Constitution and ruled the country as per its wishes. Today, those who tried to finish off democracy are lecturing us about it,” Nabin said.

The BJP chief also accused the Congress of attempting to create instability in the country, alleging that the party was receiving support from both domestic and foreign forces.

Targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Nabin said he was questioning the country's constitutional institutions now but had not raised similar concerns when his party was in power.

His remarks come amid continuing political differences between the BJP and Congress over constitutional values, democratic institutions and the functioning of government.

Nabin's address was significant as it marked his first appearance at the Jharkhand BJP state executive committee meeting since the party's central leadership recently reorganised the state unit, appointing new office-bearers and organisational in-charges.

Before addressing the executive committee, the BJP president held a meeting with district presidents and district in-charges to discuss organisational matters.

The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for the party leadership to engage with its state-level organisation and review its political and organisational priorities in Jharkhand.

The BJP and Congress have frequently traded accusations over the protection of constitutional institutions and democratic processes, with both parties presenting sharply contrasting interpretations of India's political developments and governance.
