Mumbai, Sept 2026 : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has named Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray and his father, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, among several individuals whose roles are to be investigated in connection with the death of actor-manager Disha Salian in June 2020.
The names figure in an FIR registered by the central agency following a direction from the Bombay High Court for a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding Salian’s death.
The FIR also mentions actors Dino Morea and Sooraj Pancholi, actor Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty. Their roles have been listed for investigation in connection with alleged offences, including criminal conspiracy, the alleged creation and dissemination of a false narrative of suicide, and alleged suppression, destruction or fabrication of evidence.
The FIR names several other individuals, including Aaditya Thackeray’s security personnel, former Mumbai police officers Sachin Waze and Param Bir Singh, DCP Vishal Thakur and then Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.
Police personnel associated with Malvani Police Station, officials involved in the investigation and doctors and staff connected with the post-mortem examination have also been mentioned. Officers of the Forensic Science Laboratory in Kalina, including Assistant Chemical Analyser N.P. Bhale, figure in the FIR as part of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the case.
Security guards associated with Regent Galaxy Building, including Sushil Kumar Yadav and Shivmurad Gautam alias Munna, have also been named. The FIR further refers to senior members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and other police officials who supervised the earlier inquiry.
The agency has also included unidentified persons whose roles may require examination in relation to the alleged offences and the subsequent handling of the case.
Salian was found dead on June 8, 2020, after falling from a building in Mumbai. Her death occurred six days before actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Bandra residence on June 14. Salian’s death was initially recorded as an Accidental Death Report (ADR).
The matter later became the subject of political and public controversy, particularly because of its proximity to Rajput’s death. Questions were also raised by Salian’s family regarding the circumstances of her death.
The CBI registered the FIR after the Bombay High Court directed the agency to conduct an investigation. During an earlier hearing, a division bench comprising Justices Bharti Dangre and Manjusha Deshpande questioned why only an ADR had been registered despite allegations by Salian’s family that she had been murdered.
The court also took note of the fact that Salian’s family had reportedly not received copies of her post-mortem report and ADR even five years after her death.
Following the court’s intervention, Salian’s father, Satish Salian, said he had provided investigators with information concerning his daughter’s death and expressed confidence that the agency would pursue the matter.
Speaking to ANI on Friday, Satish said he had given investigators the names of several individuals whom he wanted questioned as part of the investigation.
“I stated the facts exactly as they were; I told them everything that happened to my daughter. I listed all the names: Aditya, Sooraj Pancholi, Dino Morea, and the bodyguards. They noted everything down,” he said.
Satish further said investigators had assured him that appropriate action would be taken based on the information he had provided.
Expressing faith in the judicial process, he said, “The truth cannot be defeated. God stands where the truth is; that is why justice will be served.”
The fresh CBI probe has also drawn a response from Shweta Singh Kirti, sister of Sushant Singh Rajput. In a video posted on social media, Shweta welcomed the investigation and expressed hope that it would help establish the truth surrounding Salian’s death.
“Truth has its own power; it can be suppressed for some time, troubled, but it cannot be defeated,” she said.
Shweta said the CBI investigation had brought hope to many of Rajput’s followers who have continued to seek clarity over the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Salian and Rajput.
The CBI investigation will now examine the circumstances surrounding Salian’s death, the handling of the initial inquiry and the allegations raised by her family. The inclusion of names in an FIR indicates that their roles are subject to investigation and does not by itself establish guilt or criminal liability.
