Gorakhpur, Oct 2026 : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath demonstrated compassion and quick decision-making during the traditional Vijayadashami procession in Gorakhpur, stopping the procession to allow an ambulance carrying a patient to pass through a crowded area.

The incident conveyed the message that saving a human life must take precedence over traditions and ceremonial protocols.

The traditional Vijayadashami procession, organised from Gorakshpeeth, the world-renowned centre of the Nath sect, was moving past the main entrance of Gorakhnath Temple on Tuesday evening when the sound of an ambulance siren drew the Chief Minister’s attention.

Amid a massive gathering of devotees and tight security arrangements, an ambulance carrying a seriously ill patient struggled to move through the crowded road. As soon as Yogi Adityanath heard the siren near his vehicle, he immediately instructed his security personnel to clear the way for the ambulance.

Acting on the Chief Minister’s directions, security personnel promptly halted the procession and created a passage for the emergency vehicle. Devotees and other people present at the site also cooperated, moving aside to allow the ambulance to proceed safely.

Despite the heavy crowd and limited space, the ambulance passed through without further obstruction. The procession resumed along its designated route only after the emergency vehicle had moved ahead.

The Chief Minister was leading the traditional Vijayadashami procession in his capacity as the head of Gorakshpeeth. The occasion witnessed a large gathering of devotees who had assembled to participate in the religious celebrations.

The incident has since drawn considerable attention on social media, where a video of the episode is circulating widely. Internet users and members of the public have praised the Chief Minister’s decision to prioritise the patient’s needs over the continuation of the religious procession.

Many have described the gesture as an example of compassionate leadership, noting that the decision to temporarily suspend a major religious event demonstrated the importance of placing human life above ceremonial arrangements and VIP security protocols.

The incident has also highlighted the importance of public cooperation and prompt action by security personnel in ensuring the unhindered movement of emergency vehicles during large gatherings.

The message emerging from the episode was clear: humanity must come before tradition, and every second matters when a life is at stake.
