Tehran, September 2026 : Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Saturday claimed that its forces had dismantled a “terror” team allegedly linked to the United States and Israel in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, killing two members of the group.
In a statement carried by the IRGC’s official news outlet, Sepah News, the Quds Base of the IRGC Ground Force said the operation was conducted jointly with provincial police and intelligence forces. According to the statement, the suspected team was preparing to carry out attacks against several “pre-determined” targets in the province.
The IRGC did not provide further details about the identities of those killed or specify the nature of the alleged targets. Iranian authorities have repeatedly accused foreign-backed groups of carrying out or planning attacks in Sistan and Baluchestan, a restive region bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The latest announcement follows another operation reported by the IRGC late last month. Sepah News had said that Iranian forces dismantled a separate “terror” team allegedly connected to the United States and Israel in the same province. One member was reportedly killed while six others were arrested during that operation.
The developments come amid a sharp escalation in military tensions between Iran and the United States across the wider region.
Iran’s Army said on Thursday that it had launched missile and kamikaze drone strikes against US military facilities in the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait. The Iranian military described the attacks as retaliation for Iranian military personnel and civilians killed in recent US strikes against Iran.
According to the Iranian Army, its forces targeted US military installations, including satellite communication systems, equipment warehouses and a fighter aircraft hangar at Ahmad al-Jaber Air Base in Kuwait. The strikes reportedly damaged communications infrastructure and the aircraft hangar.
The Iranian military also claimed to have targeted US troops and radar systems at Al Minhad Air Base in the UAE. It warned that any further attacks by US forces would trigger what it described as “harsh and devastating” retaliation until what Tehran calls ultimate victory and punishment of the aggressor.
The US military has also acknowledged conducting recent strikes against Iranian military targets. US Central Command (CENTCOM) said Wednesday that its forces had “successfully completed a wave of strikes” against Iranian military positions.
CENTCOM said the strikes were carried out in response to what it described as recent attempted attacks by the IRGC against commercial shipping in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz and against US service members.
The latest developments underscore the rapidly intensifying confrontation between Washington and Tehran, raising concerns over further military escalation and the security of commercial shipping and US forces across the Gulf region.
