Chennai, Sept 2026 : Actress Jyotika and Tamil cinema star Suriya have renewed their wedding vows as they celebrated 20 years of marriage, reflecting on a journey shaped by love, understanding, adjustments, sacrifices and the imperfections that have strengthened their relationship.
Jyotika shared a video from the special vow renewal ceremony on Instagram in collaboration with Suriya. Titled “THE SEQUEL”, the video was accompanied by an emotional note in which the actress reflected on their two decades together, their children and the life they have built as a family.
Describing the occasion, Jyotika said the vow renewal was not a celebration of a “perfect marriage” but of the imperfections, adjustments, understanding and sacrifices that have defined their relationship.
“A vow renewal, celebrating our 20 years of love and war. And no, this is not a celebration of a perfect marriage. This is a celebration of imperfections, of adjustments, of understanding, sacrifices, of loving each other selflessly,” she wrote.
Calling their relationship a celebration of “us”, Jyotika said the occasion honoured the people they had become for each other over the years.
Reflecting on how their relationship evolved, she wrote about a dream that once seemed distant but had become the reality she would continue to cherish throughout her life.
Among her renewed vows was a promise to remain happy and focus on the positive aspects of life. She also vowed to celebrate life and expressed gratitude for having a husband who respects and values her.
Another vow centred on avoiding complaints and accepting life's imperfections. Jyotika wrote that everything in existence is incomplete and that what matters is how people choose to fill the gaps in their lives.
She also promised to remain thankful for her family. Expressing gratitude for waking up beside a man who protects her and for her children, she said they had given her life meaning and a reason to live.
Health also featured prominently in her vows. Jyotika promised to remain healthy, describing good health as the “only true asset” people can build. She compared even the most beautiful homes to life itself, noting that both inevitably have imperfections and require constant care and renewal.
The actress also made a heartfelt promise to be the best mother to their children. She clarified that being a good mother was not simply about cooking, cleaning or helping, but about being a source of happiness and creating memories that would make their children want to relive the story of their parents.
Addressing Suriya directly, Jyotika promised to remain an “imperfect wife” who may fight with him but would always reconcile and grow closer through those experiences.
She also highlighted the importance of friendship in their marriage, describing Suriya as her equal, confidant, gossip partner and best friend, besides being her husband and the father of their children.
“I vow to cherish our friendship most of all,” she wrote, emphasising that finding all those qualities in one person was rare.
Concluding her note, Jyotika raised a toast to the next 20 years of their journey together, describing them as “the imperfect us, with the perfect understanding.”
