16 Weighbridges at Bhandarej Toll Plaza Also Sealed; 380 Inspected Across the State, ₹10.95 Lakh Fine Imposed
Jaipur, October 2026: In a major drive to protect consumer interests and curb possible irregularities at toll plazas, the Legal Metrology Cell of the Consumer Affairs Department conducted a statewide special inspection campaign on October 21 and 22, following directions from Consumer Affairs Minister Sumit Godara.
During the campaign, 380 weighbridges were inspected across Rajasthan. Of these, 79 were found operating without valid verification and were seized. The department imposed a total fine of ₹10.95 lakh across the state.
Major Action at Bhandarej Toll Plaza in Dausa
During the campaign, the department took strict action at Bhandarej Toll Plaza in Dausa district after finding weighbridges operating without valid verification.
A total of 16 weighbridges were seized to prevent potential irregularities arising from the use of unverified weighing systems.
How Unverified Weighbridges Can Cause Financial Losses to Consumers
Toll charges for heavy vehicles are sometimes determined on the basis of vehicle weight and the applicable toll regulations. If weighing equipment has not undergone valid verification, the accuracy of its measurements cannot be assured.
Incorrect weighing could result in a vehicle being recorded as heavier than its actual weight, potentially leading to the vehicle owner being charged more than the prescribed toll fee. Inaccurate measurements may also adversely affect transportation costs, freight charges and other weight-based payments.
The department launched the special campaign to prevent such potential irregularities, ensure transparency in weighing and safeguard the financial interests of consumers and vehicle owners.
Department Issues Clear Warning
The Legal Metrology Cell has clarified that all weighbridges and weighing equipment must undergo valid verification in accordance with the prescribed rules. Strict action will be taken against those found using weighing equipment without valid verification.
The department said inspection campaigns would continue to ensure accuracy and transparency in weighing practices and protect consumer interests.
