PM Modi, Polish PM Donald Tusk to Hold Talks on Defence, Trade and Strategic Partnership

New Delhi, Oct 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Polish counterpart, Donald Tusk, will hold bilateral talks in New Delhi on Thursday to strengthen the India-Poland Strategic Partnership, with discussions expected to cover defence manufacturing, trade, emerging technologies, space research and renewable energy.

The two leaders will also exchange views on regional and global developments, including the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and India’s relations with the European Union (EU). The discussions are expected to explore new avenues for cooperation across economic, technological and strategic sectors.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is also expected to meet the visiting Polish Prime Minister later in the day as part of the high-level diplomatic engagements.

Tusk arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday evening for a three-day official visit aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation and strengthening ties between India and Poland. He was received at the airport by Minister of State for Food Processing Industries and Jal Shakti, Raj Bhushan Choudhary.

Welcoming the Polish leader, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on social media platform X that the visit was expected to provide fresh momentum to the India-Poland Strategic Partnership and deepen the longstanding relationship between the two countries.

Defence Manufacturing and Emerging Technologies on Agenda

Defence cooperation and manufacturing are expected to feature prominently in the bilateral discussions, alongside opportunities to expand trade and investment. Both countries are also looking to strengthen collaboration in emerging technologies, space research and renewable energy.

The talks will provide an opportunity for India and Poland to explore partnerships in advanced industrial sectors, encourage business-to-business engagement and identify potential areas for technological cooperation.

Regional and international security developments will also form part of the discussions, particularly the Russia-Ukraine conflict and its wider implications for European and global security. India-EU relations are another important area of engagement, given Poland’s position within the European Union and the potential for closer economic cooperation between India and European markets.

Polish Business Delegation to Visit Delhi and Bengaluru

Tusk is accompanied by Poland’s Minister of Finance and Economy, Andrzej Domanski, along with a high-level business delegation. In addition to official meetings in the national capital, the delegation will participate in business forums in New Delhi and Bengaluru.

The India-Poland Business Forum is scheduled to take place in New Delhi on October 22 and in Bengaluru on October 23. The meetings are expected to bring together business representatives to explore trade, investment and commercial partnerships.

After completing his engagements in Delhi, Tusk will travel to Bengaluru, where he will interact with business stakeholders, particularly those associated with the information technology (IT) and space sectors.

India-Poland Strategic Partnership Gains Momentum

According to the MEA, this is Tusk’s second visit to India as Polish Prime Minister, following his earlier visit in 2010.

The two leaders last met in 2024, when Prime Minister Modi visited Warsaw. That historic visit elevated India-Poland relations to a Strategic Partnership, creating a framework for deeper engagement across political, economic, defence and technological fields.

The current visit is expected to build on that progress and expand cooperation between the two countries.
