Lunglei, September 2026: A training programme on the use of Electronic Vaccine Carriers (EVCs), a modern equipment used for safe storage and transportation of vaccines, was organised today at the Conference Hall of the new SCMO (Senior Chief Medical Officer) Office building in Lunglei.
The training on the operation of the EVC was conducted under the guidance of Lunglei District Immunisation Officer Dr Christina Zonunmawii. Addressing the participants, she said that the officials attending the training play an important role in serving the public. She urged them to carefully understand the functioning of the equipment and use the knowledge effectively so that people in the areas where they work can benefit from the facility.
Officials from 11 Sub-Centres located in the western parts of Lunglei district participated in the training. These Sub-Centres cover remote and difficult-to-access areas under Bunghmun RD Block, Lungsen RD Block and Tlabung RD Block, where transportation and connectivity remain challenging.
Priyanka Jain from Black Frog Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Manipal, Karnataka, served as the resource person for the training. She provided detailed information about the Electronic Vaccine Carrier, including its operation, maintenance and other important aspects that users need to know. The programme also included an interactive session involving questions, answers and discussions.
The Electronic Vaccine Carriers were procured by the SELCO Foundation under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to support Mamit, Lawngtlai and Lunglei districts. A total of 30 Electronic Vaccine Carriers, designed to safely store vaccines and transport them to remote locations while maintaining the required temperature, were formally handed over to Mizoram Health & Family Welfare Minister Lalrinpuii on September 1, 2026.
Lunglei district has also received the equipment, following which the training programme was organised to familiarise health workers with its proper use and maintenance.
The Emvolio Vaccine Carrier is manufactured by India-based Black Frog Technologies. The equipment has already been successfully deployed in parts of the Northeast, including Manipur and Meghalaya.
The EVC is designed to maintain vaccines at the temperature required for their safe storage and transportation, thereby helping prevent damage to temperature-sensitive vaccines. The technology is expected to strengthen vaccine delivery in remote and difficult-to-reach areas and ensure that essential immunisation services reach beneficiaries safely and efficiently.
The introduction of the Electronic Vaccine Carrier is expected to improve the last-mile delivery of vaccines in Lunglei district, particularly in areas where difficult terrain, poor connectivity and transportation challenges can affect conventional vaccine transportation systems.
