Trump Predicts Oil Prices Will Plunge After US Victory in Iran Conflict

Washington, Sep 2026 : US President Donald Trump on Monday predicted a sharp decline in global oil prices once the United States emerges victorious from its ongoing conflict with Iran, saying gasoline prices in the US could eventually fall below USD 2 a gallon.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump linked elevated energy prices to the ongoing military confrontation in West Asia and said oil markets would stabilise rapidly once the conflict comes to an end.

“Oil prices will drop precipitously, like everything else is dropping (but more!), when we WIN the war with Iran,” Trump wrote, adding that gasoline prices could first fall to around USD 3 a gallon and ultimately decline to below USD 2.

Trump also repeated his warning that Washington would not permit Iran to develop or acquire a nuclear weapon, indicating that the nuclear issue remained central to his administration’s position on the conflict.

“It will all happen quickly, and Iran will never have a Nuclear Weapon. MAGA!” Trump said in the post.

The comments came as tensions between Washington and Tehran continued to escalate, with oil production facilities, energy infrastructure and tanker routes increasingly becoming focal points in the confrontation.

Earlier on Monday, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned the United States against targeting Iranian energy infrastructure, saying any such action could trigger serious consequences for American interests in the region.

In a post on X, Ghalibaf described Iran’s oil and gas production network as “sprawling, accessible, and exposed”, while warning that American energy companies and facilities operating across the region were similarly vulnerable.

“American oil and gas companies across these waters and facilities share that exposure. Strike our assets, and you get struck. We've already proven it,” Ghalibaf said, referring to previous attacks on US-linked facilities and military bases.

He also shared an image warning that the US economy could face a prolonged downturn as a consequence of the conflict. The message declared that a “lost decade” for the US economy was approaching, blaming decisions taken by officials in Washington.

Ghalibaf made the remarks while resharing a post by US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, who warned that Iran’s oil tanker fleet could be targeted if Tehran attacked American naval vessels.

Hegseth claimed that Iran’s tanker fleet was defenceless and repeated Washington’s assertion that Iranian naval and air capabilities had been severely degraded.

“It’s simple: if Iran shoots at U.S. ships, we will destroy (and sink) their oil tankers,” Hegseth said, warning Tehran against attacking US Navy vessels. He claimed that American aircraft, ships and submarines could strike Iranian targets across the US Central Command and US Pacific Command areas of responsibility.

Hegseth also shared video footage released by US Central Command (CENTCOM), which purportedly showed US strikes against oil tankers.

CENTCOM said three Iranian crude oil tankers targeted by US forces were allegedly part of a multibillion-dollar “shadow network” used to generate revenue for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its regional allies.

Adm Brad Cooper, commander of CENTCOM, said the US action was intended to send a clear warning to Tehran.

“Let the message to the IRGC be clear: If you shoot at two of our ships, we will impose an even higher economic cost — taking out three of yours,” Cooper said.

He added that US forces would continue defending American personnel and assets and, if required, would target Iran’s vulnerable oil fleet.

The increasingly hostile rhetoric highlights the growing risks surrounding energy supplies and maritime trade routes as the conflict intensifies. Oil markets remain particularly sensitive to any disruption involving Iranian production, tanker traffic or key regional shipping routes.

Trump’s prediction of sharply lower fuel prices after a US victory contrasts with Tehran’s warnings of retaliation against American energy interests, underscoring how oil has become both an economic and strategic component of the widening confrontation.
