Tehran, Sept 2026 : At least four people, including a child, were killed and around 50 others injured after a US strike hit a house where a wedding ceremony was being held in southern Iran, Iranian officials said, as military hostilities between Washington and Tehran resumed.
The strike reportedly targeted a wedding gathering in the coastal village of Kohstak in Sirik County, Hormozgan province. Iranian state media and local officials reported that the attack caused significant damage to the venue, with images from the site showing destruction following the strike.
Ahmad Nafisi, deputy governor of Hormozgan province, initially told Iranian state television that two people had been killed and several others wounded when the US strike hit the house where the wedding ceremony was taking place.
The reported death toll was later revised to four by the provincial Red Crescent, according to Tasnim news agency. A child was among those killed, while approximately 50 people were reported injured.
Several of the injured were treated and subsequently discharged from medical facilities, while others were shifted to Minab Hospital for specialised treatment, officials said.
Fresh Wave of US Strikes
The incident occurred as the United States launched a fresh wave of military strikes against targets inside Iran on Tuesday, ending a month-long lull in direct military action between the two countries.
The US Central Command said the latest operations targeted Iranian air defence installations, radar systems, maritime assets, mine-laying capabilities and communications facilities. Washington said the strikes were carried out after Iranian forces allegedly attempted to target commercial shipping operating through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, as well as US personnel stationed in the region.
Iran responded with missile and drone attacks following the renewed US strikes. Iranian media reported that ballistic missiles were launched towards Jordan, where US military forces are stationed.
Jordan said its forces intercepted the incoming missiles, while the United Arab Emirates reported that it had successfully stopped an Iranian drone over its territorial waters.
Trump Warns Tehran Against Retaliation
US President Donald Trump issued a warning to Iran against retaliatory attacks, saying Tehran would face an even stronger US response if it chose to strike back.
The renewed confrontation has also heightened concerns about the safety and continuity of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil transit routes.
Iran has been working with Oman on a framework aimed at managing maritime traffic through the strategic waterway. Meanwhile, Gulf countries have called for the Strait of Hormuz to be reopened unconditionally to ensure the uninterrupted movement of commercial vessels and global energy supplies.
