Telangana Budget 2024-25: Key Highlights

Telangana Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka presented the state budget for 2024-25 in the Assembly on Thursday, detailing allocations across various sectors. The total budget stands at Rs. 2,91,191 crores.

Key Budgetary Allocations and Financial Details:

  • Revenue Expenditure: Rs. 2,20,945 crores
  • Capital Expenditure: Rs. 33,487 crores
  • Telangana Per Capita Income: Rs. 3,47,299
  • Debt at Formation of Telangana: Rs. 75,577 crores
  • Current Debt (as of December this year): Rs. 6.71 lakh crores
  • Dues Paid by Congress Government: Rs. 42,000 crores

Increased Allocations for Specific Departments:

The Telangana Budget 2024-25, announced by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, saw significant increases in allocations for the departments of women and child welfare, minority welfare, and backward classes (BC) welfare. The Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) special development funds received allocations of Rs. 33,124 crore and Rs. 17,056 crore, respectively.

Regarding the Rs. 2,736 crore allocated to the Department of Women and Child Welfare, the Deputy CM emphasized the formation of Amma Adarsha Patashala committees to maintain Anganwadi schools, despite some criticism from teachers’ unions about converting these centres into pre-schools.

Other Notable Budget Increases:

  • BC Welfare: Increased to Rs. 9,200 crore from Rs. 6,229 crore
  • Minority Welfare: Increased to Rs. 3,003 crore from Rs. 2,200 crore

Deputy CM Bhatti highlighted the establishment of various corporations for SC and ST communities and the integration of all gurukulas for SC, ST, BC, and minorities into a single 20-acre campus. He reiterated the Congress government’s commitment to conducting a caste census to enumerate the population of various castes in Telangana.
