US Consul Mike Hankey Meets Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan

Mumbai : On Tuesday, August 13, US Consul in Mumbai, Mike Hankey, met with Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai. During the meeting, they held bilateral discussions on economic and political cooperation, trade and investment, collaboration between state universities and American universities, and skill development initiatives.

Mike Hankey surprised Governor Radhakrishnan by starting the conversation in Tamil. Hankey explained that he had studied in Tamil Nadu for a year 30 years ago under a student exchange program, during which he learned Tamil.

Hankey also mentioned that the US Consulate in Mumbai is one of the largest in the world, and last year, Mumbai issued the highest number of visas to Indian students. He highlighted that a meeting was organized last year between the Vice-Chancellors of Maharashtra and representatives of American universities to enhance cooperation. He also noted ongoing collaborations in skill development between US state ITIs and the State Skill University. Additionally, Hankey shared that the US is investing in women entrepreneurship, agriculture and food processing, healthcare, and clean energy in India through the US International Development Finance Corporation.

Governor Radhakrishnan welcomed the US Consul and emphasized the importance of increasing student, expert, and faculty exchanges between state and American universities. He also expressed hope that the US would increase investment in solar energy, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and the textile industry in India.

Richa Bhala, Head of Political Economy at the US Consulate, Political Officer Ryan Mullen, and Political Advisor Priyanka Visaria-Nayak were also present at the meeting.
