Yogi government to equip Gorakhpur Link Expressway with Advanced Traffic Management System soon

Lucknow : The Uttar Pradesh government, in line with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s mission to upgrade the state’s expressways with state-of-the-art facilities, is set to equip the Gorakhpur Link Expressway with an Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS).

The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has initiated the process for the selection and allocation of agencies for this project. Previously, UPEIDA also began equipping the Bundelkhand Expressway with an ITMS, a project currently progressing.

These enhancements improve passenger amenities and significantly enhance the safety and monitoring of logistics across the state.

As part of the action plan to equip the Gorakhpur Link Expressway with an ITMS, a traffic management command centre will be established on the expressway. This centre will significantly enhance traffic monitoring and management.

The Traffic Management Control (TMC) unit will be outfitted with recording server storage, backup recording servers, and a facility monitoring system controller. It will also feature a graphic display, internet and SMS servers, and a fibre channel host.

The TMC unit will also be equipped with various facilities, including an emergency telephone helpline console and an Aadhaar-enabled biometric fingerprint scanner for staff.

Motion detection surveillance cameras and a vehicle speed detection system will be installed on both sides of the Gorakhpur Link Expressway. These systems will enable the control room to issue alerts and track overspeeding vehicles in real time.

Additionally, the Video Incident Detection System (VIDS) and Incident Detection System (IDS) will be implemented as part of the ITMS process. The selected agency will be responsible for procuring, installing, operating, and maintaining all these systems.

Furthermore, the agency will provide training to UPEIDA staff on operations and oversee the appointment of technical and control room operation staff as part of this initiative.
