Yogi govt rescues 194 villagers trapped in Bahraich floods through overnight operation.

Lucknow : The Yogi government successfully rescued 194 villagers, who were trapped in floods while working in a field in a Bahraich village, following an intensive 12-hour long overnight operation on Friday.

The overnight operation was launched soon after the administration received information about gush of water released from Nepal inundating the village.

The rescue team managed to save 63 people during the night, with the operation to rescue the remaining 131 continuing until 9 AM. Among those rescued were many women and children, along with men.

Following the rescue, health check-ups were conducted for all individuals, who were then safely transported back to their homes. Relief materials were also distributed to the victims.

Noteworthy is that the Yogi government is continuously monitoring the flood-affected areas in the state and providing all possible help to the disaster victims.

Relief Commissioner GS Naveen informed that the State Emergency Center received information at 6:30 PM on Friday that hundreds of people were caught in floodwaters in Bahraich. Subsequently, Commissioner Shashi Bhushan Lal Sushil of Devipatan Division and District Magistrate Monika Rani of Bahraich were rushed to the scene immediately.

Commissioner Shashi Bhushan Lal Sushil explained that over a hundred villagers from Chahalwa village in Dharmapur Pargana, Mihipurwa Tehsil (Motipur), Bahraich, had gone to work in their fields on the other side of the Ghaghra River. At that time, the river’s water level was low. However, in the evening, the water level rose suddenly due to water released from Nepal, flooding the area.

Upon receiving the report, a rescue team was dispatched to the location. It was found that about 194 villagers were trapped in the floodwaters, with the majority being women.

District Magistrate Monika Rani mentioned that a team consisting of the SSB, NDRF, SDRF, and PAC staff was involved in the operation. The team managed to rescue 63 people during the night, while the remaining 131 were brought to safety after 12 hours of effort, by 9 AM.

The District Magistrate further noted that the operation was temporarily halted late at night due to strong water currents and darkness to avoid any casualties. The rescue operation resumed shortly after.

The District Magistrate informed that all 194 people trapped in the flood were safely rescued. Following their rescue, medical checkups were conducted, and arrangements for food and water were made. They were then transported back to their villages by vehicles. During this time, relief materials were distributed to the victims affected by the disaster.

Additionally, people living in villages near the Ghaghra River are being advised not to go near the river. Rescue teams are continuously alerting the villages about this.
