Madhya Pradesh among Indias Leading States in Renewable Energy: CM Dr. Yadav

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, while addressing the 7th International Renewable Energy Conference & Exhibition-2026 in New Delhi, said that Madhya Pradesh is fully committed to contributing to India's target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030. He said the state is making rapid strides in renewable energy, energy storage, and green industrial development, and has emerged as one of the country's leading destinations for renewable energy.

To underscore his commitment to clean energy and sustainable public transport, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav travelled from the airport to Shivaji Stadium via the Delhi Metro Airport Express Line to attend the conference. As the Delhi Metro extensively uses solar energy for its operations, the Chief Minister chose the Metro as a symbol of his commitment to promoting green energy and environmentally friendly mobility.

At the conference, Madhya Pradesh showcased its achievements and future roadmap in the renewable energy sector through a comprehensive presentation. The inaugural session was attended by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Shri Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister for Heavy Industries Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy, Bhutan's Minister for Energy and Natural Resources H.E. Lyonpo Gem Tshering, Sri Lanka's Energy Minister Shri Anura Karunathilaka, Additional Chief Secretary, New and Renewable Energy, Madhya Pradesh, Shri Manu Srivastava, along with policymakers, industry leaders and energy experts from India and abroad.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that Madhya Pradesh is fully committed to contributing to India's goal of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030. He highlighted that investment-friendly policies, robust infrastructure and abundant natural resources are rapidly transforming the state into one of India's leading green energy hubs.

The conference focused on strengthening energy security, advancing green technologies, promoting innovation and investment, and fostering international cooperation. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav expressed confidence that the conference would strengthen global partnerships in clean energy and serve as an important step towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav informed that Madhya Pradesh's renewable energy capacity has increased nearly 25-fold over the past 12 years, rising from 438 MW to more than 11,000 MW. He said that over the past two years, the state has introduced dedicated policies for renewable energy, pumped hydro energy storage and biomass, creating new opportunities for investment and innovation. The Chief Minister highlighted that the 750 MW Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Project set a national benchmark by achieving a solar tariff lower than coal-based power for the first time in India. The project received the World Bank Group President's Award for Excellence, and its case study is taught at Harvard University. He further stated that the 1,500 MW Agar-Shajapur-Neemuch Solar Project has achieved a record-low solar tariff of ₹2.14 per unit and is supplying green energy to the Indian Railways across eight states.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the country's largest 278 MW Floating Solar Project was inaugurated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 25 December 2025. He added that under the Surya Mitra Krishi Feeder Scheme, proposals amounting to nearly 14,900 MW of capacity have been received, with significant participation from farmers and MSMEs. The Chief Minister said Madhya Pradesh is rapidly expanding battery energy storage systems to strengthen energy security and grid stability.

The 440 MW Solar and 880 MWh Battery Energy Storage Project at Morena is the state's first project of its kind to secure power purchase agreements through competitive bidding. Work is also underway on 4-hour, 6-hour and 24-hour solar-plus-energy storage projects to ensure a reliable round-the-clock supply of renewable energy.Chief

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that rooftop solar systems with a combined capacity of 48 MW are being installed across 1,300 government buildings. Under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, rooftop solar systems with a cumulative capacity of 566 MW have already been installed in nearly 1.5 lakh households across Madhya Pradesh.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that Madhya Pradesh's investment-friendly policies, vast renewable energy potential and industrial capabilities have been effectively showcased at international forums, including the World Economic Forum in Davos. He expressed confidence that Madhya Pradesh would emerge as the country's leading centre for clean energy, energy security and sustainable development in the coming years.

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy and Education Shri Prahlad Joshi said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India is making remarkable progress in clean and green energy. He informed that the country is on the verge of crossing 300 GW of installed non-fossil fuel power capacity. More than 50 lakh households have benefited from rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. The Union Minister acknowledged the significant contribution of Madhya Pradesh and several other states in expanding renewable energy capacity and called upon all states to further strengthen efforts towards sustainable development, energy efficiency, environmental conservation and the wider adoption of clean energy.
