Mumbai, Aug 2026: To spread the message of soil and water conservation among the public, the Maharashtra Government’s Department of Soil and Water Conservation will organise ‘Maha Walkathon 2026 – Walk for Water’ across all districts of the state on August 21, 2026. Soil and Water Conservation Minister Sanjay Rathod invited actor Sanjay Dutt to participate in the state-wide initiative, and he has accepted the invitation.
To promote the initiative, the first 10 winners at the district level will be honoured with mementos. In addition, cash prizes totalling Rs 71,000 are proposed to be awarded through sponsors. The first prize will carry Rs 25,000, the second prize Rs 15,000 and the third prize Rs 10,000. Seven participants will also be selected through a lucky draw and each will receive a special prize of Rs 3,000.
Carrying the messages ‘Save Soil, Save Water, Secure Tomorrow’ and ‘Paani Adva, Paani Jirva, Jalyukta Maharashtra Ghadvा’ (Conserve water, recharge water and build a water-secure Maharashtra), the initiative will seek to create greater awareness about water conservation. A Water Conservation Week is being observed from August 15 to 21, while a water conservation campaign is being conducted from August 15, 2026 to January 26, 2027. As an important part of this campaign, the ‘Maha Walkathon’ on August 21 is expected to play a significant role in turning water conservation into a people’s movement.
