The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen has appointed senior leader Syed Abdul Hussain Anwar as its new General Secretary, filling the post that fell vacant following the death of Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri in February. AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi also announced other organisational appointments and distributed study material to 1,700 Class 10 Urdu-medium students in Hyderabad.
Hyderabad, Sept 2026 : The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has appointed senior leader Syed Abdul Hussain Anwar as its new General Secretary, filling a key organisational position that had remained vacant since the death of Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri in February 2026.
AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi announced the appointment on Monday, along with a series of changes to the party’s organisational structure. The appointments have taken immediate effect, according to a party release.
Syed Mushtaq Ahmed has been appointed Joint Secretary, while Mohsin Balala has been named Treasurer. Abu Talha Amjed will assist Samad Bin Abbad in matters related to the party organisation.
The appointments were announced through an official authorisation issued by Owaisi. The party said the changes were intended to strengthen its organisational framework and administration.
The organisational announcements came alongside Owaisi’s participation in an educational assistance programme in Hyderabad, where he distributed “All-in-One” study material among 1,700 Class 10 Urdu-medium students.
The initiative is being implemented through the Majlis Charities Educational and Relief Trust and forms part of a longer-running educational assistance programme started in 2005 by former AIMIM president and MP Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi.
Under the programme, educational assistance is provided annually to students, including books, school bags, guide sets for Classes 6 to 9 and assistance towards SSC examination fees.
As part of this year’s programme, 8,000 “All-in-One” study materials are being distributed among students across Telangana. This is in addition to 11,000 educational kits distributed in July. The total expenditure on the educational assistance programme has been estimated at around Rs 65 lakh, according to the information released by the party.
Addressing the gathering, Owaisi also raised concerns over changes in minority scholarship and educational support programmes under the Union government. He said the Ministry of Minority Affairs had been weakened and claimed that reductions or discontinuation of certain schemes had affected educational assistance available to minority students.
Owaisi referred to government data on allocations and expenditure under different minority scholarship programmes while making the claim. His remarks were made in the context of the educational assistance programme being run by the trust.
The AIMIM president also spoke about the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and urged voters who have received notices to respond within the prescribed process and submit the required documents.
He advised voters whose names have been excluded from electoral rolls or marked as “shifted” or “death” to approach the Election Commission through the prescribed procedure and seek correction or inclusion of their names.
The Election Commission has announced measures related to the SIR process, including additional time for filing claims, home visits by election officials and help desks for voters facing notices concerning possible removal from electoral rolls. Owaisi has previously raised concerns about the process and the documentation required from voters.
He further advised eligible citizens to make use of the Election Commission’s voter services portal for SIR-related submissions and, where applicable, submit Form 6 for new voter registration.
The latest organisational appointments mark a restructuring of key positions within the AIMIM following the death of Quadri, who had served as the party’s General Secretary. The party has simultaneously continued its educational assistance activities through its charitable and educational institutions.
The appointments and educational programme come as AIMIM continues to expand its organisational activities in Telangana and other states. The party has also been engaged in political discussions around electoral-roll revision and representation of minority communities.
With Anwar taking charge as General Secretary and new office-bearers assuming responsibilities, the party leadership is expected to focus on organisational functioning while continuing its educational and social initiatives.
