Mumbai, September 2026 : Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has opened up about an unfulfilled desire to learn music and play musical instruments, admitting that he still feels a sense of regret over not being able to pursue the art despite having a deep interest in it.
The veteran actor made the revelation in an upcoming episode of the quiz-based reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 18, during a light-hearted interaction with contestant Kritagya Nayyar, a content creator.
Kritagya requested Bachchan to play the popular social media game ‘This or That’ on the show. Introducing his request, the contestant praised the actor's contribution to Indian cinema and his popularity, joking that there was perhaps no bigger content creator in the country than Bachchan himself.
“Sir, meri ek request hai. Maine bataya tha ki main content banata hoon. Sir, aapse bada content creator koi nahi hai is country mein,” Kritagya said.
He then explained that he wanted to play the game with Bachchan so that he could create a reel and hopefully gain a few more followers.
During the game, Kritagya asked Bachchan whether he would prefer to relive a particular day from his past or experience a day he had never lived but had always wished to experience.
Bachchan reflected on the question and said his long and eventful life had given him so many memorable experiences that it was difficult to identify a particular day he would want to relive.
“Sach kahen toh hamare jeevan mein itni ghatnayein hui hain ki pata nahi kaunsa din dobara jeena chahenge,” Bachchan said, adding that the second part of the question concerned experiencing something that he had never done before.
It was then that the actor revealed his long-standing wish to learn music.
“Sangeet humne nahi seekha hai aur uski bahut khwahish thi,” he said, explaining that he had always admired people who could play musical instruments or sing.
Bachchan said watching musicians play instruments such as the sitar and harmonium, and listening to accomplished singers, often made him wonder how they managed to perform so beautifully.
“Ye jo log saaz bajate hain, sitar hai, peti hai, aur jo gaayak hote hain, unko dekhkar humein bahut dukh hota hai,” he said, adding that music was something he had always wanted to learn but never did.
The actor further revealed that his interest in music had even found a place in his home. He said the family had collected several instruments that could be used for learning music, but they remained largely untouched.
“Ghar mein, sir, sangeet seekhne ke liye jitne yantra hone chahiye, woh sab ikattha karke rakhe hue hain,” Bachchan said.
In a humorous yet poignant observation, he added that they even put flower garlands on the instruments, telling themselves that one day he would finally begin learning music.
“Unke upar hum phoolon ki mala chadha dete hain ki ek din aayega jab hum kuch seekhenge,” he said.
Reflecting on his age, Bachchan acknowledged that despite having the instruments at home and the desire to learn, he had still not managed to acquire the skill.
“Ab 84 varsh ho gaye hain, kuch nahi aaya humein. Toh is baat ka humein bahut dukh hai,” he said.
The candid admission offered viewers a glimpse into a lesser-known side of the veteran actor, whose decades-long career has seen him establish himself as one of the most influential figures in Indian cinema.
While Bachchan has excelled in acting, narration and public performances throughout his career, his comments revealed that learning music remains one of the few artistic pursuits he wishes he had explored.
