Amaravati, Oct 2026 : The Andhra Pradesh government has transferred IAS officer Vikas Marmat following a controversy over an alleged altercation with police personnel during a late-night inspection at a pub in Bengaluru.
Marmat, a 2019-batch IAS officer who was serving as Project Director of the Kuppam Area Development Authority (KADA), has been directed to report to the General Administration Department (GAD) for further posting.
According to a government order issued by Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad, the transfer takes immediate effect. The Chittoor District Collector and District Magistrate has also been instructed to make alternative arrangements for the post of Project Director, KADA, until a new appointment is made.
The administrative action follows a case registered by Bengaluru’s Cubbon Park police against Marmat and three others over an alleged confrontation with officers conducting a late-night inspection at a pub on Residency Road.
Incident During Late-Night Inspection
The incident reportedly took place around 1.30 am on October 10, when a police team was checking bars and restaurants to verify compliance with regulations, including checking customers’ identification documents to establish their ages.
According to the complaint filed by Police Inspector Arun Salunke, Marmat and his companions allegedly entered into an argument with the officers, used abusive language and assaulted or threatened police personnel who were on duty. The complaint further alleged that the group obstructed the officers from carrying out their official responsibilities.
Besides Marmat, the other accused have been identified as Abhay Uday Singh, Nitesh and Roshan.
Cubbon Park police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The sections invoked include Section 115(2), relating to voluntarily causing hurt; Section 351(2), concerning criminal intimidation; Section 352, relating to intentional insult intended to provoke a breach of peace; Section 132, concerning assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging official duties; and Section 3(5), relating to common intention.
The allegations are subject to investigation, and the registration of an FIR does not establish guilt.
Video Circulates on Social Media
A video purportedly showing the confrontation was widely circulated on social media, bringing the incident into public attention.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reportedly took serious note of the controversy and ordered action against the IAS officer, leading to the transfer.
Marmat’s posting at KADA had placed him in charge of a development authority responsible for projects in Kuppam, the Assembly constituency represented by Naidu in Chittoor district.
The state government’s order changes Marmat’s current assignment, while the police case in Bengaluru remains a separate matter. Further developments will depend on the investigation into the alleged confrontation and any subsequent administrative decisions.
