Patna, October 2026: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Saturday transferred ₹1,237.48 crore directly into the bank accounts of 1,08,36,000 social security pension beneficiaries, including senior citizens, persons with disabilities and widowed women, at the rate of ₹1,100 per beneficiary.
The transfer was made through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism during a programme held at the Sankalp auditorium at the Chief Minister’s official residence, Lok Sevak Awas. Social security pension beneficiaries, district magistrates from across the state and other dignitaries participated in the programme through video conferencing.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister congratulated all pension beneficiaries on the occasion of Social Security Pension Day and extended his best wishes to them.
He said that under the leadership of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the monthly social security pension amount had been increased from ₹400 to ₹1,100, providing significant relief to beneficiaries. He added that approximately 90,000 to one lakh new beneficiaries were being added to the pension scheme every month.
The Chief Minister said the government had ensured that pension amounts were transferred to beneficiaries’ bank accounts by the 10th of every month, highlighting its commitment to timely and transparent delivery of social welfare benefits.
He emphasised that the NDA government was committed to protecting the dignity and social security of poor and disadvantaged sections of society, particularly senior citizens, persons with disabilities, widowed women and other vulnerable groups.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India and former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s vision of a prosperous Bihar, Choudhary called for collective efforts to achieve these goals.
The Chief Minister directed all district magistrates to ensure that no eligible person was excluded from the social security pension scheme. He also appealed to public representatives to visit villages in their respective constituencies and verify whether all eligible residents were receiving their entitled benefits.
He asked officials and elected representatives to conduct special campaigns on the occasion of Panchayati Raj Development Day to identify eligible beneficiaries who might have been left out of the scheme.
He further directed authorities to use health surveys to identify eligible people who were not receiving pensions and ensure that their applications were processed.
Choudhary stressed that pension distribution must remain timely and transparent so that every eligible citizen could access social security benefits with dignity.
He said the increase in the monthly pension from ₹400 to ₹1,100 had brought meaningful changes to the lives of beneficiaries and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare of poor, deprived and needy sections of society.
During the programme, Social Welfare Department Secretary Vinod Singh Gunjiyal welcomed the Chief Minister by presenting him with a green sapling and a memento.
Deputy Chief Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Social Welfare Minister Dr Shweta Gupta, Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit, the Chief Minister’s secretaries Lokesh Kumar Singh and Sanjay Kumar Singh, and other senior officials attended the event. District magistrates, dignitaries and beneficiaries from all districts joined through video conferencing.
