Road safety is not merely about following rules but also about our responsibility towards protecting ourselves and our families: CM Sai
Wear a helmet on every journey, stay safe and protect your family: Chief Minister
Raipur, November 2026: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Wednesday inaugurated a Helmet Bank established by Jashpur Police at the Jashpur Police Lines.
Launched with the objective of preventing loss of life in road accidents and increasing public awareness about traffic rules, the initiative has made 1,000 helmets available at the facility. Two-wheeler riders will be able to borrow helmets temporarily whenever required.
Appreciating the initiative, the Chief Minister said road safety was a collective responsibility of every citizen. Following traffic rules was not merely a legal obligation but essential for protecting oneself and one's family.
He appealed to citizens to compulsorily wear helmets while riding two-wheelers and use seat belts while travelling in four-wheelers.
Sai said many people lose their lives in road accidents because of serious head injuries. Regular use of helmets can significantly reduce the risk of severe injuries and fatalities in such accidents.
He added that a small precaution could not only save one's life but also protect the family from an irreparable loss. Every citizen, therefore, should make road safety a part of their daily routine.
Describing the Helmet Bank as a commendable public welfare initiative, the Chief Minister said it would encourage people to follow traffic rules while also providing practical assistance to those in need.
He expressed confidence that the initiative would play an important role in increasing awareness about road safety in the district and promoting a culture of safe driving.
Helmet Bank to provide assistance to people in need
A key feature of the Helmet Bank operated by Jashpur Police is that citizens who suddenly need to travel for an essential task but do not have a helmet, or cannot afford to purchase one immediately, will be provided a helmet temporarily.
After completing their work, they will be required to return with their own helmet and deposit the borrowed one back at the Helmet Bank. They will also be expected to assist the police in a small community service activity related to road safety awareness.
Jashpur Police is also conducting a special drive against people riding two-wheelers without helmets. Under the campaign, vehicles of riders found without helmets are being seized. However, their vehicles are being released without issuing a traffic challan if they purchase a new helmet and submit the purchase receipt.
The objective of this arrangement is not merely to take enforcement action but to develop the habit of regular helmet use among citizens.
Jashpur Police has resolved to ensure that every person travelling on a two-wheeler in the district wears a helmet. Launched with the message, 'A Helmet on Every Head, Safety for You and Your Family,' the initiative seeks to make road safety a participatory public movement.
Raigarh MP Radheshyam Rathia, Jashpur MLA Raimuni Bhagat, Pathalgaon MLA Gomti Sai, Municipal Council President Arvind Bhagat, District Panchayat President Salik Sai, District Panchayat Vice-President Shaurya Pratap Singh Judev, Prabal Pratap Singh Judev, Sunil Gupta, Bharat Singh, Amar Sultania and Krishna Rai were present on the occasion.
Other attendees included Surguja Divisional Commissioner Narendra Dugga, Surguja Range Inspector General of Police Deepak Kumar Jha, Collector Rohit Vyas, Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Lal Umed Singh, public representatives, police and administrative officials, and a large number of distinguished citizens.
