New Delhi, September 2026 : As part of the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, being organised from September 17 to October 17 on the occasion of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s birthday, the Delhi Government has taken an important step towards the welfare of workers and connecting them directly with government services. On Thursday, Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta inaugurated the ‘Namo Shramik Seva Kendra’ and a Gig Workers’ Rest Area in Shalimar Bagh on the occasion of Vishwakarma Day. Delhi Labour Minister Shri Kapil Mishra and a large number of workers were present at the programme. The Chief Minister also interacted with the workers and heard their experiences and suggestions.
The Chief Minister said the government remains committed to the respect, convenience and welfare of workers who have made an important contribution to Delhi’s development and construction through their labour, hard work and dedication. The objective of the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ is to make public service more accessible, convenient and closer to citizens. It is with this commitment that the ‘Namo Shramik Seva Kendra’ has been launched, so that workers do not have to visit different government offices to access government schemes and services.
Easy access to government services under one roof
The ‘Namo Shramik Seva Kendra’ will function as a facilitation centre for workers, where necessary assistance related to various government services and worker welfare schemes will be available at a single location. Workers will receive assistance with registration and renewal, document verification, information on the status of applications, details of various welfare schemes and guidance on services related to claims at the centre. This will make access to government services easier and more convenient for workers. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the government’s effort is to ensure that those who have contributed to building and advancing Delhi through their labour do not have to face difficulties in accessing government facilities. Ensuring that government schemes and services reach the last person through a simple process is the true spirit of public service, she said.
Rest area facility for gig workers
A Gig Workers’ Rest Area was also inaugurated during the programme. With the rapidly changing nature of work, a large number of gig workers are providing their services. In such a situation, it is also necessary to provide them with convenient and dignified places to rest in the city. The initiative is a step towards providing gig workers with better facilities to take some time off and rest during work. Through this, the government aims to make public facilities for workers and gig workers working in Delhi more sensitive and citizen-centric.
‘Seva Sankalp’ inspired by PM’s 25-year journey of public service
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that under the guidance of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, special emphasis has been placed on taking the welfare of the poor to the ground through various schemes. Keeping in mind the needs of workers related to income, housing, food, healthcare, skill development and social security, the government is working at different levels. She said the ‘Namo Shramik Seva Kendra’ is not merely a facilitation centre, but a symbol of respect for workers and the commitment to serve them. The government’s objective is to ensure that workers are aware of their rights and welfare schemes and do not face any unnecessary difficulty in accessing the benefits of these schemes.
Workers’ health will also be taken care of
Wishing all workers on the occasion of Bhagwan Vishwakarma Jayanti, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that respecting workers, ensuring their welfare and providing them with necessary facilities are priorities of the Delhi Government. She said the government is developing a system to take healthcare services to workplaces so that workers have less need to visit hospitals for regular health check-ups. Under this, health vehicles will visit workplaces to conduct regular check-ups of workers and, if any illness or health problem is detected, arrangements will also be made for necessary treatment. She said the tradition of Bhagwan Vishwakarma conveys the importance of labour, creation and construction. The ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ is taking forward this spirit of bringing public service closer to those in need.
Shramik centres to be launched across Delhi: Labour Minister
On the occasion, Delhi Labour Minister Kapil Mishra said the country’s workers and artisans will play an important role in fulfilling Prime Minister Ji’s resolve of a developed India by 2047. As part of this, 13 Shramik Seva Kendras will be launched in Delhi in the first phase. At these centres, workers will be able to register free of cost and avail themselves of various worker welfare schemes of the government. These centres will subsequently be expanded across Delhi.
The Labour Minister said the Delhi Government is going to establish training centres where workers will receive foreign language skills along with technical skills, opening up new employment opportunities for them across the world. He told the workers that it is the Delhi Government’s resolve that a developed and golden India should be built through their hands, their hard work, their skills and their craftsmanship.
