Gurukulam to emerge as a strong centre integrating India’s knowledge tradition with modern education: CM Dhami
Haridwar, September 2026: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the inauguration ceremony of the first Patanjali Ayurveda Gurukulam at Patanjali Wellness Yoggram in Aurangabad village, Haridwar, on Wednesday.
Congratulating Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev, Acharya Balkrishna and the entire Patanjali family on the launch of the Gurukulam, Dhami said the institution would become a strong centre for integrating India’s rich knowledge tradition with modern education.
The Chief Minister said Haridwar is a major centre of faith, culture and Sanatan traditions. The establishment of Patanjali Ayurveda Gurukulam in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand is an important initiative towards connecting India’s glorious knowledge tradition with the modern era, he said.
Dhami said India’s Gurukulam tradition has served as the foundation of knowledge, values, discipline and character-building for thousands of years. Students in traditional Gurukuls were imparted not only book-based knowledge but also taught the art of living and their responsibilities towards society.
He said the principle of “Sa Vidya Ya Vimuktaye” has been a foundation of India’s ancient education tradition. True education, he said, is that which frees a person from ignorance, fear and narrow-mindedness while enabling the holistic development of personality.
Dhami expressed confidence that Patanjali Ayurveda Gurukulam would become an effective medium for taking India’s knowledge tradition to the younger generation. The integration of modern science and technology with yoga, Ayurveda, Indian culture and traditional values would help students remain connected with their roots while preparing them to meet future challenges, he said.
The Chief Minister said the relevance of Gurukulam education had increased in today’s rapidly changing world. Along with modern knowledge, education in values, discipline and a balanced lifestyle is essential for the all-round development of children, he said.
Dhami also acknowledged the contributions of Swami Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna in the fields of yoga, Ayurveda, education, research and public health. He said Swami Ramdev had played an important role in taking yoga to people across the country, while Acharya Balkrishna had made significant contributions to the study, research and promotion of Ayurveda.
NEP-2020 Emphasises Indian Knowledge Tradition
Dhami said the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, implemented under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, places special emphasis on skills, innovation, the Indian knowledge tradition and the holistic development of students.
Uttarakhand is also continuously moving forward towards effective implementation of the National Education Policy, he said.
The Chief Minister said modernity and tradition were not contradictory but complementary. The younger generation, he said, can face future challenges with greater confidence by embracing modern knowledge while remaining connected with its roots and heritage.
He said a Centre for Hindu Studies had been established at Doon University to promote the study and research of Indian knowledge traditions, philosophy and culture. The state government is working to ensure that young people understand and appreciate India’s rich heritage and present it to the world with confidence, he added.
Uttarakhand Promoting Science, Research and Innovation
Dhami said the state government was also working rapidly to promote science, research and innovation. The country’s fifth Science City is being developed in Dehradun, while resources required for scientific activities, including science and innovation centres in various areas, are also being created.
He said the government was creating a favourable ecosystem for startups and innovation while placing special emphasis on equipping young people with skills aligned with future requirements.
The Chief Minister said the state government was committed to providing transparent and fair opportunities to youth. A stringent anti-cheating law has been implemented in Uttarakhand to ensure transparency in government recruitment, he said.
According to Dhami, around 35,000 young people have received employment opportunities in government services over the past nearly five years.
Uttarakhand Being Developed as Global Centre for Yoga, Ayurveda and Spirituality
Dhami said the state government was working towards developing Uttarakhand not only as a major tourism destination but also as a leading global centre for knowledge, yoga, Ayurveda and spirituality.
Educational institutions such as Patanjali Ayurveda Gurukulam would serve as important partners in this endeavour, he said.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the Gurukulam would emerge as an important centre for the study of knowledge, science, yoga and Ayurveda for students from Uttarakhand, other parts of India and across the world.
Students graduating from the institution, he said, would contribute significantly to society and nation-building with knowledge, values and a spirit of service.

Ravi Bahadur, former Cabinet Minister Swami Yatishwaranand, Golden Baba, Swami Bhudev, BJP district president Ashutosh Sharma, BJP Roorkee district president Dr Madhu Singh, Minister of State Om Prakash Jamdagni, Minister of State Adesh Saini, Shyamveer Saini and Ajit Singh were among those present.
