Government stands firmly with every affected family; Rs 10,000 assistance announced from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund in addition to regular relief
Raipur, Sept 2026 : Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Sunday visited flood-affected areas of Bastar district to assess the situation on the ground and meet families affected by the flooding.
Sai reached Dongaghat in the Jagdalpur Municipal Corporation area and interacted with affected families, listening to their concerns and taking stock of the damage caused by the floods. He assured residents that the state government stood firmly with them during the crisis and would provide all possible assistance with sensitivity and urgency.
As an additional relief measure, the Chief Minister announced financial assistance of Rs 10,000 to each affected family from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, over and above assistance available under existing government provisions.
He directed officials to complete surveys and assessments of flood-related damage at the earliest and ensure that eligible families receive government assistance without delay.
During his interaction with residents at Dongaghat, Sai sought details about the circumstances faced by families during the flooding, damage to houses and household belongings, and the relief being provided. He said all necessary assistance should be extended based on the needs of affected families.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to ensure there was no laxity in relief operations. Food, clean drinking water, medicines and other essential supplies should reach affected people on time. He also stressed the need to give special attention to children, elderly people, women and other vulnerable groups.
CM Reviews Indravati Water Level and Flood-Affected Areas
Sai visited the Indravati bridge and reviewed the river’s water level and surrounding flood-affected areas. He obtained information from departmental officials about rainfall and flood conditions in the district, affected villages and urban areas, relief and rescue operations, and arrangements made for affected families.
He directed officials to continuously monitor changes in the water level and weather conditions. Special vigilance should be maintained in low-lying and vulnerable areas, with relief and rescue teams activated immediately whenever necessary.
Sai said the safety of people was the top priority and arrangements should remain fully prepared to respond to any emergency.
Focus on Health and Sanitation After Floodwaters Recede
The Chief Minister directed officials to pay particular attention to health and sanitation challenges in affected areas after the floodwaters recede. He called for ensuring access to safe drinking water and undertaking cleaning and necessary treatment of water sources.
Health department teams should remain active to prevent water-borne diseases, he said. He also directed authorities to organise health camps wherever required, maintain adequate stocks of medicines and respond immediately to any potential outbreak of disease.
Sai stressed that relief operations should not end merely with the receding of floodwaters. Necessary arrangements should continue until the lives of affected families return to normal.
Prompt Assessment of Damage to Houses, Crops and Livestock
The Chief Minister directed officials to conduct sensitive and transparent surveys of houses, crops, livestock and other property damaged by the floods. He said actual losses should be assessed and assistance provided promptly to affected families according to government provisions.
“No eligible affected family should be deprived of assistance,” he said, while asking officials to regularly visit relief camps and affected settlements to understand the needs of residents.
He directed authorities to give the highest priority to human sensitivity during relief operations and ensure that necessary assistance reaches every affected person on time.
Government Stands With Every Affected Family: CM
Sai said the state government stood firmly with people affected by the floods during the difficult situation caused by the natural disaster. Ensuring the safety of affected people, providing relief and restoring normalcy in their lives at the earliest were among the government’s top priorities, he said.
The Chief Minister assured that there would be no shortage of necessary resources and that affected families would receive all possible support from the government.
Following his directions, relief and rescue operations are being carried out in flood-affected areas. Food, drinking water, healthcare and other essential assistance are being provided according to the needs of affected families, while the situation is being continuously monitored and necessary measures taken promptly.
Mayor Sanjay Pandey, Municipal Corporation Chairman Khemsingh Dewangan, Kamalchandra Bhanjdeo and other public representatives were present on the occasion. Bastar Commissioner Doman Singh, IG B.N. Meena, Collector Akash Chhikara, Superintendent of Police Shalabh Sinha and officials from concerned departments also accompanied the Chief Minister.
