Lucknow, September 2026 : As part of the ongoing 'Shuddh Hi Shubh Hai' campaign aimed at providing consumers in Uttar Pradesh with safe, clean and quality food items, the food safety and drug administration department conducted a special inspection drive against fast food retail chains and restaurants in Lucknow, Gorakhpur and Noida again on Friday. During the inspection, food licenses of 10 establishments were suspended after violations of food safety standards and serious hygiene-related deficiencies were found. These include eight establishments in Lucknow and one each in Noida and Gorakhpur. The department has taken necessary action against the concerned establishments as per rules, suspending their licenses and getting the establishments shut down. In view of the irregularities found in most units, improvement notices were issued with instructions to ensure necessary improvements as per prescribed standards. The department had also taken major action in these three districts on Thursday.
Action taken against 8 establishments in Lucknow
During inspection in Lucknow, the presence of cockroach infestation was found at Moti Mahal Restaurant, Lulu Mall, along with a lack of proper arrangement for separating raw-cooked and veg-non-veg food items, and extremely poor hygiene and sanitary conditions. At Pizza Hut, Thakurganj, the possibility of cross-contamination emerged due to veg and non-veg food items being cooked in the same oven. Similarly, at Champaran Meat, Vastu Khand, Gomti Nagar, raw and semi-cooked meat were found stored together, along with foul odour, storage of old/dirty oil, and extremely poor hygiene. At Club Jalwa, Vibhuti Khand, Gomti Nagar, unhygienic storage of chicken, fish, momos and vegetables along with old semi-cooked food items was found. Old cabbage and gravy, along with poor sanitary arrangements, were also found here.
Action also taken against these establishments
In addition, at Madras Dosa, Fun Mall, extremely poor hygiene, pest infestation and inadequate infrastructure were found, raising the possibility of cross-contamination. At Bindaas Bar, in the kitchen of Summit Building, extremely unhygienic conditions, dirt in the drain, open dustbin and the need for deep cleaning were found. At Windies Burger, Aliganj, preservatives were being used in pre-cooked food items which were being sold as freshly prepared food, but consumers were not being given clear information about this. At MR Eating Point, Lulu Mall, food processing was being carried out along with repair and infrastructure work, raising the possibility of cross-contamination. Food processing here was stopped until the work is completed.
Cockroaches found in kitchen in Gorakhpur, drainage found blocked; rodent and pest infestation in Noida
At Food Cage in Gorakhpur, the presence of cockroaches was found in the kitchen and processing area, along with completely blocked drainage and extremely poor hygiene and sanitary conditions. Action was taken in view of the possibility of cross-contamination of food items arising from these conditions. On the other hand, at F Bar and Lounge in Noida, rodent and pest infestation was found along with extremely poor hygiene and sanitary conditions. Action was taken against the concerned establishment in view of the possibility of cross-contamination of food items arising from this. In view of the serious irregularities found during the department's inspection, food licenses of all 10 concerned establishments have been suspended. Necessary action as per rules is being taken in the relevant cases to ensure compliance with food safety standards. Through the campaign, emphasis is being placed on ensuring that food businesses follow standards of cleanliness, safe storage, proper separation of raw and cooked food items, and providing correct food information to consumers.

Under the 'Shuddh Hi Shubh Hai' campaign, the food safety department's focus is not limited to action alone; food business operators (FBOs) will also be given an opportunity to improve in accordance with prescribed food safety standards. During inspections, standards such as cleanliness, safe storage, separation of raw-cooked and veg-non-veg food items, food-grade packaging, temperature control, clean water and kitchen cleanliness are being checked. Wherever serious irregularities or risks to consumer health are found, action as per rules is also being ensured. The department's effort is to make safe food practices a part of regular operations, from large restaurants and food chains to small food businesses, so that a safe and quality food environment can be ensured in the state.
