Licences of seven units recommended for suspension following inspections under ‘Shuddh Hi Shubh Hai’ campaign
Lucknow, September 2026 : The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) Department conducted intensive inspections of fast-food outlets and restaurants across five districts of Uttar Pradesh under the ‘Shuddh Hi Shubh Hai’ campaign, uncovering several serious food safety and hygiene violations.
The inspections were carried out in Kanpur Nagar, Agra, Ghaziabad, Prayagraj and Varanasi with the objective of ensuring the quality of food products and safeguarding consumer health. During the inspections, several irregularities were detected at food preparation and processing establishments.
Considering the violations serious from the food safety perspective, action was initiated against the concerned establishments in accordance with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the rules and regulations framed under it. Following the inspections, recommendations have been made for suspension of the licences of seven units across the five districts in the public interest.
Several Serious Violations Detected
During the inspections, officials found insect and rodent infestation, extremely poor hygiene and sanitary conditions, and inadequate arrangements for separate storage and processing of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items.
At several establishments, stagnant dirty water and waste were found accumulated in drains, creating a serious possibility of cross-contamination. Officials also detected instances where expired food products were stored and being used at food preparation facilities.
Kanpur Nagar: Serious Lapses at Tunday Kababi
At Tunday Kababi in Kanpur, hygiene and sanitation conditions were found to be extremely poor. Foul odour was present in the food processing area, while raw meat was not being stored and handled properly.
There was no adequate segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items. Water had accumulated in the drain, resulting in foul smell and a potential risk of contamination.
Varanasi: Expired Materials Found at Wow Momo
At Wow Momo in Varanasi, officials found packaged food products carrying future manufacturing dates. Expired cold drinks and sauces were also found stored and being used on the premises.
Agra: Poor Hygiene at Amritsari Kulcha
At Amritsari Kulcha near Sanjay Palace in Agra, hygiene and sanitary conditions were found to be extremely poor. Food products were being packed in unsuitable paper.
Paint was peeling from the walls, while expired food products were also found being used. The department recommended closure of the food business until the required improvements are made.
Ghaziabad: Serious Irregularities at Four Establishments
At AC Enterprises in Ghaziabad, blood was found leaking from chicken and mutton stored in a deep freezer, creating a possibility of cross-contamination. There was no proper segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food products. Excessive dirt was found in the processing area and basement, while open dustbins without lids were also observed.
At Flocoz Yuvraj Nagar in Ghaziabad, the deep freezer was found to be extremely dirty and vegetarian and non-vegetarian food products were not properly segregated. Dirt was found on the chimney and other equipment, while utensils and equipment were inadequately cleaned.
At Nathus, Raj Nagar, Ghaziabad, waste accumulated in a drain, causing foul odour. Insect infestation, including insects and cockroaches, was found on the premises. Improper storage of leftover sweets, repeated use of cooking oil and storage of food in open containers were also observed. Vegetables were kept in the open, creating a possibility of contamination. Suspension of the licence has been recommended.
At Bikanervala, Rajendra Nagar, Ghaziabad, insect infestation was detected and hygiene and sanitary conditions were found to be extremely poor. The cleaning area was highly unhygienic, drainage was choked and open dustbins were found inside the kitchen. In view of public interest, suspension of the licence has been recommended.
Department Emphasises Compliance with Food Safety Standards
The department stated that maintaining hygiene, ensuring safe storage, preventing cross-contamination and complying with food safety standards are mandatory for all food establishments.
Action is being taken against establishments where serious violations were detected during inspections, in accordance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the applicable rules and regulations.
