Lohari Sawanga’s Development Journey in Focus Ahead of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s Proposed Visit

Nagpur, November 2026: The true picture of rural Maharashtra’s development is reflected in the social, economic and agricultural life of its villages. Lohari Sawanga in Nagpur district is one such village, where agriculture has remained at the centre of its development journey.

Located in Narkhed taluka, Lohari Sawanga has a historical legacy. Since the establishment of its Gram Panchayat in 1948, the village has continued to progress with changing times. Against the backdrop of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s proposed visit, the village’s social, economic and agricultural characteristics have come into focus.

The Lohari Sawanga Gram Panchayat was established in 1948. It currently has 12 elected members, comprising seven women and five men. According to the 2011 Census, the village has a population of 4,264, including 2,414 men and 1,850 women.

The village has a total of 844 households, of which 590 fall under the Above Poverty Line (APL) category and 254 under the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category. Its administrative structure is divided into four wards.

Agriculture is the mainstay of Lohari Sawanga’s economy. The major crops cultivated in the village include cotton, tur (pigeon pea), oranges, sweet lime, soybean, gram and wheat. Alongside traditional crops, fruit orchards have also provided farmers with additional income opportunities. The village’s cropping pattern reflects the broader agricultural economy of the Vidarbha region.

The village has 810 registered tap-water connections, an important indicator of its rural water supply infrastructure. According to available records for 2026, Lohari Sawanga has a total electorate of 2,400 voters. Its geographical area covers 979.19 hectares.

The village’s development is not limited to infrastructure alone. It is closely linked to several factors, including agriculture, water supply, employment, education and healthcare.

For families dependent on farming, access to modern agricultural technologies, irrigation facilities, suitable markets for agricultural produce and food-processing industries is essential to creating opportunities for higher incomes.

With Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s proposed visit to Lohari Sawanga, the expectations of residents, rural development concerns and challenges faced by the agricultural sector have assumed greater significance.

The visit provides an opportunity to review the village’s longstanding Gram Panchayat system, agriculture-based economy and social structure, while also exploring ways to broaden the direction and scope of rural development.
