New Delhi, Aug 2026 : Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has awarded a contract worth ₹184.25 crore to BEML Limited for the manufacture and supply of fuselage aerostructures for India’s indigenous Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) Prachand, marking another step towards strengthening the country’s domestic aerospace manufacturing capabilities.
According to a report by Capital Market, the contract covers the production and delivery of critical fuselage structures that form an integral part of the LCH airframe. The order is significant for India’s indigenous combat helicopter programme as it brings another major public-sector defence enterprise into the advanced manufacturing ecosystem supporting the Prachand.
The fuselage is a fundamental structural component of any helicopter, housing key systems and providing the framework required to withstand operational stresses. For the LCH Prachand, these structures need to meet demanding requirements because the helicopter has been specifically developed for operations in challenging environments, including mountainous and high-altitude areas.
The Prachand has been designed to provide the Indian armed forces with a dedicated attack helicopter capable of operating in difficult terrain and at high altitudes. Its ability to undertake combat, close air support and anti-armour missions makes reliability and structural integrity particularly important for sustained operations.
The contract further expands the role of BEML in India’s defence aerospace sector. A Schedule A public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Defence, BEML operates across three principal business areas — defence and aerospace, mining and construction, and rail and metro.
The company has previously supported HAL by supplying ground support equipment and aerospace-related components. The LCH Prachand, inducted into service in 2022, has been developed to meet the operational requirements of both the Indian Army and Indian Air Force. The helicopter is equipped with a range of weapons, including a chin-mounted cannon, rockets, anti-tank guided missiles and air-to-air missiles. Its design enables it to operate in demanding high-altitude environments where conventional attack helicopters may face limitations.
The inclusion of BEML-manufactured fuselage aerostructures is expected to support HAL’s production requirements and help maintain the supply chain for the expanding LCH fleet. A reliable domestic supply of critical structural components is important for sustaining production schedules, maintenance requirements and long-term fleet readiness.
The order also fits into the broader Aatmanirbhar Bharat objective of reducing dependence on imported defence equipment and components.
