Harmanpreet Kaur Set to Make T20I Captaincy History Against Pakistan

Dubai, Sep 2026 : India captain Harmanpreet Kaur is on the verge of creating history when India take on arch-rivals Pakistan in the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 5.

The high-profile clash will see Harmanpreet reach a landmark 150th appearance as captain in T20 internationals. She is already the most capped captain in T20I cricket across both men’s and women’s formats and will become the first player to lead a team in 150 T20I matches.

India have begun their Asia Cup campaign strongly, winning both their matches so far. The team will now aim to continue its winning run against Pakistan and strengthen its position in the tournament.

In their previous outing, India registered a comprehensive victory over Hong Kong. Openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma made valuable contributions with the bat, setting up a competitive total before the Indian bowlers completed a convincing win.

Harmanpreet was pleased with the team’s overall performance and said adapting to the conditions in Dubai had been one of the key objectives for India.

“I’ll start with the positives. Smriti and Shafali batted really well. In the middle overs, that’s why we wanted to bat first, to get used to these conditions,” Harmanpreet said after the match.

The India captain added that the team had achieved its objective of becoming familiar with the conditions while putting up a strong total. She also praised the bowlers for completing the job efficiently and securing another comfortable victory.

With the Pakistan encounter now in focus, Harmanpreet indicated that India’s team combination was largely settled. However, she left the door open for players to step up if circumstances required a change in strategy or personnel.

The India-Pakistan contest is expected to attract considerable attention, given the intense rivalry between the two sides. For Harmanpreet, the match carries an additional significance as she prepares to reach a milestone that no player has achieved in T20I cricket.

Having already established herself as the most experienced T20I captain in terms of matches led, Harmanpreet’s 150th captaincy appearance will further underline her longevity and influence in the format.

As India look to maintain their unbeaten start to the Asia Cup, all eyes will be on their skipper in Dubai as she prepares to combine a historic personal achievement with another crucial assignment for the team.
