New Delhi, Sept 2026 : The Indian Air Force (IAF) has successfully conducted a drop test of the indigenously designed and developed Long Range Glide Bomb (LRGB) Khagantak-243, marking another step in India’s efforts to strengthen its domestic precision-strike capabilities.
The weapon has been developed by Indian defence company JSR Dynamics. According to reports, the latest trial achieved its intended objectives, supporting the ongoing development and evaluation of indigenous air-launched precision weapons.
The Khagantak-243 is part of India’s broader effort to develop advanced long-range air-launched systems capable of providing greater flexibility during stand-off strike missions. Glide bombs are released from aircraft and use aerodynamic lift to travel towards designated targets, allowing the launching platform to engage targets from distances beyond the range of conventional gravity bombs.
The successful test adds to India’s expanding portfolio of precision-guided and long-range strike systems being developed to enhance the capabilities of its armed forces. Such weapons can potentially provide aircraft with greater operational flexibility while reducing the need to approach targets closely.
The latest trial also highlights the growing role of domestic defence manufacturers in India’s efforts to strengthen indigenous weapons development. Cooperation between the armed forces and Indian industry has expanded in recent years as the country seeks to reduce dependence on imported defence equipment and develop advanced systems domestically.
However, the successful drop test does not by itself indicate that the Khagantak-243 has entered operational service. Weapons undergoing development typically require further testing, evaluation and validation before they can be inducted into the armed forces.
The latest achievement nevertheless underlines India’s continuing focus on developing home-grown air-launched precision weapons and building a stronger domestic defence technology and manufacturing ecosystem.
