Jagan Accuses Chandrababu Naidu of Betraying BCs After Supreme Court Rejects 34% Reservation Plea

Jagan Accuses Chandrababu Naidu of Betraying BCs After Supreme Court Rejects 34% Reservation Plea

Amaravati, October 2026 : YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday accused Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of betraying Backward Classes (BCs) by failing to fulfil his promise of providing 34 per cent reservation in local body elections.

The former Chief Minister said the Supreme Court’s verdict had exposed what he described as the deception behind the ruling government’s promise. In a post on X, Jagan launched a sharp attack on Naidu, accusing him of making promises to different sections of society and subsequently failing to honour them.

“Chandrababu Naidu, you are Mr 420 when it comes to making promises to people from every section and then cheating them,” Jagan wrote.

He alleged that Naidu had secured the support of BCs by promising 34 per cent reservation in local bodies but had betrayed them. The YSRCP chief said the Supreme Court’s decision had brought the issue into focus and demanded that the Chief Minister apologise to the community.

Jagan also criticised the Telugu Desam Party-led government over its election promises and the implementation of welfare schemes. Referring to the government’s “Super Six” and “Super Seven” promises, he alleged that these commitments amounted to another deception.

He further accused the government of cancelling schemes introduced during the previous YSRCP regime and leaving nearly Rs 9,000 crore in dues under the Vidya Deevena and Vasathi Deevena schemes, which provide financial support for students’ education.

“The manifesto you issued with 143 promises is the biggest deception of all. Your promise to provide 34 per cent reservations to BCs was another big fraud. Mr Chandrababu, apologise to the BCs at least now,” Jagan said.

The political attack followed the Supreme Court’s decision on Friday to dismiss the Andhra Pradesh government’s plea challenging a state High Court ruling that struck down the 34 per cent reservation for BCs in local body elections.

On October 1, the Andhra Pradesh High Court had quashed two government orders providing the enhanced quota, holding that it violated the 50 per cent ceiling on total reservations. The court observed that reservations for all categories in local bodies must remain within the overall limit in accordance with Supreme Court guidelines.

Naidu had announced the enhanced reservation on August 18, stating that BCs would receive 34 per cent reservation in rural local bodies and 33.33 per cent in urban local bodies.

The Supreme Court’s dismissal of the state government’s plea has intensified the political debate over BC representation and the legality of the enhanced quota in Andhra Pradesh.
