Akash Ambani outlines expansion plans across mobility, home broadband and enterprise services, while highlighting opportunities in 5G, artificial intelligence and international markets.
Mumbai, Oct 2026 : Ahead of its proposed initial public offering (IPO), Jio Platforms has outlined its next phase of expansion, identifying mobility, home broadband, and enterprise and international services as its three principal growth drivers.
Speaking to journalists in Mumbai, Managing Director Akash Ambani said the company would focus on expanding its customer base, strengthening digital infrastructure and monetising its technology capabilities as India’s digital economy moves towards an estimated $1.4 trillion by FY31.
Jio currently serves around 533 million connectivity customers and carries more than 60 per cent of India’s data traffic. Ambani said customers remained central to the company’s strategy, with an emphasis on delivering affordable digital services to individuals, households and businesses.
In the mobility segment, Jio estimates an opportunity to capture around 340 million new 4G and 5G additions across the industry between FY26 and FY31. This includes approximately 100 million first-time mobile users and 240 million customers expected to migrate from 2G networks to more advanced services. The company said it added nearly three times as many net active mobile users as its second-largest competitor in FY26.
Home broadband represents another significant growth opportunity. Jio plans to expand from its existing base of approximately 28.6 million fixed broadband customers towards a target of 100 million homes. It accounted for around 67.5 per cent of India’s net fixed broadband additions in FY26.
By combining fibre connectivity with its proprietary wireless technology, the company aims to extend broadband services across nearly 19,000 PIN codes, broadening access to high-speed internet.
The enterprise and international businesses are expected to contribute to the next stage of expansion. Jio estimates India’s addressable enterprise digital services market at ₹5.1 lakh crore, equivalent to $56.8 billion. Nearly 65 per cent of the country’s bank branches are connected to its network, while the company is expanding its offerings in security and video surveillance.
Internationally, Jio plans to take its end-to-end technology stack to select markets. It aims to work as a managed services partner for global telecom operators, extending its role beyond that of a conventional software vendor.
Jio is also developing capabilities beyond connectivity through its proprietary 5G standalone stack, 7,220 patent applications across digital technologies and its JioBrain artificial intelligence platform. According to Ventura Securities, JioBrain is being deployed in network operations.
Brokerages have identified subscriber upgrades, higher average revenue per user (ARPU), broadband expansion and technology monetisation as important factors in Jio’s next growth phase. However, execution will determine the extent to which these opportunities translate into higher revenue and profitability.
Earlier, Isha Ambani highlighted Reliance’s emphasis on long-term thinking, scale, execution and financial discipline. The event opened with Uday Kotak recalling Dhirubhai Ambani and Reliance’s landmark public offering in 1977.
