On Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s Directives, Municipal Corporation Intensifies Action Against Illegal Construction and Unsafe Buildings Across All 12 Zones

New Delhi, October 2026 : On the directions of Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is relentlessly taking action against illegal construction and hazardous buildings in the capital. To ensure public safety and prevent potential accidents, such buildings are being demolished, while properties violating regulations are being sealed. The Chief Minister has directed the corporation to sustain and further accelerate the demolition drive against illegal structures across the city.
The Chief Minister stated that between September 6 and October 10, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi took demolition action against 1,046 properties across all 12 zones. During this period, 282 properties were sealed and 47 dangerous buildings were demolished. These actions are part of the ongoing drive against illegal construction, hazardous buildings, and violations of building bye-laws.
Action Across All 12 Zones, From Narela to South Delhi
Between September 6 and October 10, demolition action was taken against 62 properties in Narela, 158 in Rohini, 63 in Civil Lines, 61 in Keshavpuram, 87 in City-SP Zone, 85 in Karol Bagh, 87 in Shahdara South, 115 in Shahdara North, 87 in West Zone, 45 in Najafgarh, 75 in Central Zone and 121 in South Zone.
During the same period, one property was sealed in Narela, two in Rohini, eight in Civil Lines, 20 in Keshavpuram, 87 in City-SP Zone, 11 in Karol Bagh, 27 in Shahdara South, 41 in Shahdara North, 23 in West Zone, three in Najafgarh, 18 in Central Zone and 41 in South Zone. In total, 282 properties were sealed across all 12 zones.
Action was also taken against dangerous buildings. During this period, two such buildings were demolished in Narela, two in Rohini, eight in Civil Lines, two in Keshavpuram, eight in City-SP Zone, 13 in Karol Bagh, one in Shahdara South, eight in West Zone, one in Najafgarh and two in South Zone. No demolition of dangerous buildings was recorded in Shahdara North or Central Zone during this period. A total of 47 dangerous buildings were demolished.
Unsafe Building Demolished in Seemapuri; Notices Issued to Three Houses
Following the building collapse in Seemapuri, the concerned agencies took action and demolished one unsafe building. In addition, the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) issued notices to three other houses. Action against illegal and unsafe construction is continuing in accordance with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s directions.
The Chief Minister made it clear that the campaign against illegal construction and dangerous buildings in Delhi would continue. The government’s objective is not just to take action but also to ensure compliance with building regulations and enable timely intervention against structures that pose a threat to public safety.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the concerned agencies must take action in accordance with the rules in cases involving illegal construction and unsafe buildings. Where demolition is necessary, buildings will be demolished, and properties will be sealed wherever required. The action will not be limited to any one locality but will continue across all zones of Delhi. The government’s clear objective is to ensure compliance with building regulations and reduce the risk of potential accidents.
