TVK chief and Tamil Nadu CM to hold public meeting for P Sathyabama, followed by a roadshow on October 4 ahead of October 6 polling
Dharapuram, Sept 2026 : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president C. Joseph Vijay is scheduled to address a public meeting in Dharapuram on September 30 in support of party candidate P Sathyabama, as campaigning intensifies for the October 6 Assembly bypoll. He is also expected to hold a roadshow in the constituency on October 4.
TVK functionaries said preparations were underway for the September 30 meeting, with party workers identifying a 34-acre site along the Dharapuram-Udumalai road. Arrangements for the stage and flagpoles were being made, while security measures were being strengthened in view of the expected gathering.
Senior TVK functionaries, including Ministers K.A. Sengottaiyan and Arunkumar, are overseeing preparations in the constituency, according to party sources.
Dharapuram, in Tiruppur district, is one of two Tamil Nadu Assembly constituencies going to the polls on October 6. The other is Madurantakam in Chengalpattu district. Both seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes, while counting of votes is scheduled for October 9.
The bypolls were necessitated after the resignation of AIADMK legislators P Sathyabama and K Maragatham Kumaravel, who subsequently joined the TVK. The two former AIADMK MLAs have now been fielded by the TVK from the same constituencies.
Sathyabama, who had won Dharapuram in the April Assembly election on an AIADMK ticket, is contesting the bypoll as the TVK candidate. Her move to the TVK has become one of the issues being raised during the campaign.
In Madurantakam, TVK has fielded K Maragatham Kumaravel, another former AIADMK legislator. Vijay has already begun campaigning for the party's candidates, with his campaign schedule covering both constituencies.
The Dharapuram contest has attracted campaigning by senior leaders from several parties. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, DMK president M.K. Stalin, Naam Tamilar Katchi chief coordinator Seeman and leaders of the Left parties are among those expected to campaign in the constituency. AIADMK has also announced its campaign schedule for the two bypoll seats.
According to the campaign account supplied by TVK, 22 candidates are in the fray in Dharapuram.
Vijay is separately scheduled to campaign in Madurantakam, where TVK has fielded Kumaravel. His Dharapuram public meeting on September 30 and the proposed October 4 roadshow are expected to form a significant part of the party's campaign programme before polling.
With campaigning entering its final phase, candidates and party workers are increasing constituency-level outreach ahead of the October 6 vote. The two bypolls are being closely watched as an early electoral test for the TVK government and its political organisation following the 2026 Assembly election.
