Government Will Stand Firmly Behind Govinda Squads – Chief Minister Eknath Shinde

Thane : The government has always stood firmly behind the Govinda squads and will continue to do so. The government is committed to doing everything possible to support Govinda. Just as it is responsible for the “beloved sisters,” the government also accepts full responsibility for the “safe sister.” Chief Minister Eknath Shinde assured today that this government will not tolerate any criminal activity.

He was speaking at the Dahi Handi festival organized by the Pratap Sarnaik Foundation and Sanskriti Yuva Pratishthan. On this occasion, MP Naresh Maske, MLA Pratap Sarnaik, Purvesh Sarnaik, other officials of Sanskriti Yuva Pratishthan, various Govinda teams, and Govinda-loving citizens were present in large numbers.

Chief Minister Shinde reminisced about his childhood while watching the event. He mentioned how he used to enthusiastically participate in this game and break Dahi Handis during his younger days. Now, this festival has gained international recognition, much like how Kabaddi became “Pro-Kabaddi,” the game of Dahi Handi has evolved into a “Pro-Govinda” sport. The government has officially recognized Dahi Handi as an adventure sport. MLA Pratap Sarnaik has played a significant role in popularizing this sport by paying close attention to its development. He has expanded the scope of the game. Considering the adventurous and risky nature of the sport, the government was asked to insure all the Govindas, which was promptly approved. All Govindas are now insured.

However, Chief Minister Shinde emphasized the importance of celebrating the festival safely. He reminded everyone that their families are waiting for them. In 2011, a record of nine layers was set at this Dahi Handi festival by the group “Jai Jawan,” which was recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records. Maharashtra has several exceptional Govinda teams that seem to break records in this sport every year. But achieving such feats is not easy—it requires hard work and year-round practice. The game demands mastery with focused teamwork. Recognizing the dedication of the Govindas, this government will always stand firmly behind them and do everything possible to support them.
