Pope Leo XIV Meets Polish PM Donald Tusk, Discusses Ukraine Conflict and EU Issues
Vatican City, May 2026 : Pope Leo XIV on Thursday received Donald Tusk at the Vatican for discussions on bilateral relations, regional developments, and international concerns.
Following his audience with the Pope, the Polish Prime Minister also met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher at the Secretariat of State.
According to a statement issued by the Holy See Press Office, the discussions were cordial and reflected the strong and positive relations between Poland and the Holy See. The talks focused on Poland’s current social and economic situation, as well as relations between the Polish state and the local Catholic Church.
The discussions also addressed cooperation in areas such as education and ethical matters, which continue to remain important aspects of Church-State relations in Poland.
International developments were also part of the talks, with particular attention given to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and broader European issues. Both sides exchanged views on Poland’s role within the European Union and the challenges arising from the regional security situation.
The meeting highlighted continued diplomatic engagement between the Vatican and Poland on both domestic and international matters.
