Andhra Pradesh to Hold Local Body Elections Soon, Says Chandrababu Naidu During Collectors’ Conference

Amaravati, May 2026 : N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday announced that local body elections in Andhra Pradesh would be conducted soon, while directing district Collectors to focus on accelerating development, industrial growth, infrastructure expansion, and efficient governance across the state.

Addressing a conference of district Collectors at the State Secretariat in Amaravati, the Chief Minister reviewed the performance of various departments and assessed the implementation of government programmes at the field level. Discussions during the meeting covered sectors including education, healthcare, industrial investments, logistics, agriculture, and governance reforms.

Naidu stressed the importance of strengthening the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector, stating that the rapid growth of industries in the state would create major opportunities for ancillary industries and local businesses. He said MSMEs should become a key component of the industrial ecosystem evolving around large-scale investments entering Andhra Pradesh.

The Chief Minister instructed district Collectors to ensure that problems faced by companies investing in the state, especially those related to land allocation and approvals, are resolved immediately to maintain investor confidence and speed up industrial projects.

Highlighting the need to build strong regional brands, Naidu said products from different districts should be promoted at national and international levels, similar to the success achieved by Araku Coffee as a globally recognised brand.

Referring to the establishment of the Google Cloud Artificial Intelligence Hub in Andhra Pradesh, the Chief Minister said the project had already attracted major companies to the state, including Carrier Air Conditioning. According to him, the company would manufacture and supply bulk chillers required for data centres and future quantum computing infrastructure.

Naidu informed officials that a Quantum Reference Facility has already been established in Amaravati and stated that once the proposed Quantum Computing Centre becomes operational, a large industrial ecosystem for manufacturing supporting equipment and technology components would also emerge.

He underlined that MSMEs should actively participate in this developing technology ecosystem and benefit from emerging opportunities in artificial intelligence, data centres, and advanced computing.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of logistics and infrastructure in driving economic growth. He said reducing transportation costs is essential for improving competitiveness and attracting investments.

Naidu informed the officials that 64 national highway projects worth more than Rs 1 lakh crore are currently being implemented in Andhra Pradesh. He added that 624 railway projects worth Rs 64,000 crore are also under construction across the state.

In addition, infrastructure projects valued at nearly Rs 2 lakh crore are presently at the Detailed Project Report (DPR) stage. These projects include express train corridors, local rail networks, and expansion of railway infrastructure into four-lane corridors to improve connectivity and economic activity.

The Chief Minister said logistics parks planned across the state would generate significant employment opportunities and support large-scale industrial and commercial development.

Referring to possible climatic challenges, Naidu cautioned officials about the likely impact of El Niño conditions, which may result in below-normal rainfall in several regions. He directed district Collectors to prepare in advance and implement precautionary measures to minimise the impact on agriculture and water resources.

He instructed officials to prepare effective water management plans suitable for rainfed agriculture, dryland farming, and horticulture crops. He also stressed the importance of ensuring adequate fodder availability for livestock during potential drought conditions.

The Chief Minister further proposed adopting some of Singapore’s successful governance practices to improve administrative efficiency and public trust. He suggested developing one district in Andhra Pradesh as a model district inspired by Singapore’s governance systems.

Naidu directed officials to prepare a detailed 90-day action plan for implementing these governance reforms and asked them to closely monitor progress and execution.

Emphasising the importance of innovation, Naidu said Andhra Pradesh must continue focusing on development and accelerate progress through technology-driven governance and efficient service delivery.

He noted that Andhra Pradesh contributes nearly 10 per cent of India’s agricultural output and said the service sector must also expand rapidly to support overall economic growth.

The Chief Minister advised district Collectors to use technology and innovative ideas to improve public satisfaction in the delivery of welfare schemes and government services. He also encouraged officials to make better use of social media platforms to effectively communicate government achievements and development initiatives to the public.
