Trainee IPS Officer Uday Krishna Reddy Sent to 14-Day Judicial Custody in Sexual Harassment Case

Hyderabad, July 2026 : A city court on Wednesday remanded trainee IPS officer M. Uday Krishna Reddy to 14 days of judicial custody in connection with an alleged sexual harassment case filed by a fellow trainee officer. The development marks a significant step in the investigation into allegations that have attracted widespread attention due to the seriousness of the charges and the officer’s position in the Indian Police Service.

Reddy, who was arrested by the Attapur Police on Tuesday, was produced before the Upperpally Court in Hyderabad. After hearing the matter, the court ordered that he be remanded to judicial custody until August 11. Following the court’s directions, the accused was shifted to Chanchalguda Central Jail.

The case stems from a complaint lodged on July 18 by a 30-year-old woman trainee IPS officer, who accused Reddy of subjecting her to repeated sexual harassment and other forms of abuse during their training period at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy. According to the complaint, the accused allegedly sent abusive messages through WhatsApp, stalked her, wrongfully confined her, physically assaulted her, and criminally intimidated her over a prolonged period.

The complainant also alleged that Reddy secretly recorded a private video without her consent and later sent it to her husband in an attempt to blackmail and intimidate her. The allegations prompted the police to register a case under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as well as the Information Technology Act.

Police have invoked Sections 74 (criminal force against a woman), 75 (sexual harassment), 77 (voyeurism), 78 (stalking), 79 (insulting the modesty of a woman), 127(2) (wrongful confinement), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Additionally, Sections 66E (violation of privacy) and 67A (transmission of sexually explicit material in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act have also been applied.

As part of the investigation, police earlier took the accused to his residence in Hyderabad’s Ashok Nagar locality for scene reconstruction and collection of evidence relevant to the case.

Throughout the controversy, Reddy has consistently denied all allegations against him. In statements posted on social media, he described the accusations as false and maintained that he has full faith in the judicial process. He has asserted that the case has been built on fabricated claims and expressed confidence that the truth would emerge during the course of legal proceedings.

The case took another dramatic turn on July 21 when Reddy was found unconscious at a relative’s residence in Hyderabad’s Motinagar area amid reports suggesting an attempted suicide. He was admitted to hospital for treatment. However, police later stated that preliminary investigations indicated the incident appeared to have been staged to generate public sympathy.

A purported handwritten suicide note attributed to Reddy surfaced during this period, in which he claimed that he and the complainant had been in a consensual relationship for nearly a year. In the note, he named four individuals, including the woman trainee officer and her husband, alleging that they were responsible for driving him to take the extreme step.

Reddy further claimed that their relationship began in June 2025 and continued even after the woman got married. Rejecting allegations of coercion or force, he maintained that he possesses photographs and videos which, according to him, establish that the relationship was entirely consensual.

Following his discharge from the hospital on July 22, police said the trainee officer could not be traced and notices could not be served as he was unavailable at the addresses provided while his mobile phone remained switched off. Four police teams were subsequently constituted to locate him.

Reddy, however, denied allegations that he was absconding. He stated that he had travelled to his native village of Ullapalem in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district to visit his grandmother, who had reportedly fallen ill after learning about the allegations against him. He said he returned to Hyderabad on Tuesday, where he was taken into custody by the police.

Meanwhile, proceedings related to the case also continued before the Telangana High Court, where Reddy has filed a petition seeking the quashing of the FIR registered against him. During the hearing, his counsel argued that the criminal case was based on false allegations and lacked merit.

Public Prosecutor Palle Nageswara Rao informed the High Court that notice had not yet been served on the complainant. Taking note of the submission, the court directed that notice be issued to the victim and adjourned further hearing in the matter to a later date, while the criminal investigation continues.
