12 Hectares of MIDC Land to be Transferred to Sports Department for International Cricket Stadium in Kolhapur – DCM Ajit Pawar
Mumbai : To boost cricket in Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara districts, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has directed that 12 hectares of the 421 hectares of land owned by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) be transferred to the Sports Department. This land, located near Vikaswadi village in Karveer Taluka of Kolhapur District, will be used to construct an international standard cricket stadium. Pawar also instructed that the Kolhapur District Cricket Association will cover the construction costs and that the Sports Department should formalize this arrangement with an agreement.
In a meeting held in his committee room regarding the land transfer, Deputy Chief Minister Pawar was joined by Medical Education Minister and Kolhapur Guardian Minister Hasan Mushrif, Industries Minister Uday Samant, former MP and Kolhapur District Cricket Association President Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati, and senior officials including Revenue Department Additional Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar, Finance Department Additional Chief Secretary O.P. Gupta, Planning Department Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Rajagopal Deora, MIDC Chief Executive Officer P. Velrasu, and others. Pune Divisional Commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar and Kolhapur Collector Amol Yedge participated via video conference.
Deputy Chief Minister Pawar emphasized the growing popularity of cricket in rural areas, noting that the sport is gaining recognition at both the national and international levels. He highlighted the need for quality facilities to support the development of cricket and the training of top players. The establishment of an international standard cricket stadium in Kolhapur will benefit players from Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara districts. To facilitate this, he directed that the MIDC immediately remove any de-notification on the 12 hectares of land at Vikaswadi and that the Pune Divisional Commissioner’s Office and Kolhapur Collector’s Office expedite the necessary reports to the relevant departments.
