PM Modi receives warm welcome by Indian Community during his arrival, in Singapore

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm welcome from the Indian community upon his arrival in Singapore on Wednesday. He expressed his enthusiasm for meetings aimed at strengthening the friendship between India and Singapore and deepening cultural ties.

On the social media platform X, PM Modi shared, “Landed in Singapore. Looking forward to various meetings to boost India-Singapore friendship. India’s reforms and the talent of our Yuva Shakti make our nation an ideal investment destination. We also anticipate closer cultural ties.”

At the airport, PM Modi was greeted by enthusiastic members of the Indian community, some of whom had woken up as early as 5 a.m. to see him. He signed autographs and received a ‘rakhi’ from a woman at his hotel. The Indian diaspora expressed their joy, calling it a “dream come true” moment.

Ankit, a student at the National University of Singapore, said, “We woke up at 5 a.m. full of excitement and made a banner for PM Modi. Because of him, India’s image has improved drastically.” Another Indian national shared, “I’ve waited for this moment for 10 years. Meeting him so close was a dream come true.”

Sachin Ganjarpurkar, representing Maharashtra Mandal, mentioned that PM Modi played a drum during a cultural performance and greeted them for Ganesh Chaturthi. “We will retire this drum,” he added, noting the atmosphere of excitement.

During his visit, PM Modi is scheduled to meet with Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed. Additionally, PM Modi will engage with Singapore’s business leaders to discuss enhancing India’s strategic partnership with Singapore in areas such as advanced manufacturing, digitalization, and sustainable development.

This visit comes on the heels of the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable on August 26, where cooperation in digitization, skills development, sustainability, health, advanced manufacturing, and connectivity was discussed.
