North Bastar Kanker: Huge possibilities of tourism development in Kanker district

Kanker district, which is called the welcome gate of Bastar, has cultural, archaeological and historical heritages in addition to its natural wealth in various areas. There are unparalleled and immense possibilities of tourism here, which need to be preserved and developed. On one hand, the district has natural waterfalls – Malajkundum (Kanker) and Charre-Marre (Antagarh), while Gadhiya mountain situated among high hills in the district headquarters is famous for its natural beauty. Apart from this, many natural caves are also present here, which include Jogigufa, Ranidangri, Village Udakuda and Gotitola etc.

There are very ancient rock paintings in the hills of village Gotitola

About 30 km from the district headquarters, near the village Gotitola of Charama development block, there is a huge circular rock called Ramguda in the hills, on whose layers mysterious figures are engraved. This is mysterious and a matter of curiosity in itself. How old these figures are, is a matter of archaeological research and exploration, but the villagers say that these are very ancient figures, which are about 7 to 10 thousand years old. Villager Shri Bhumilal Mandavi told that this is an area of faith and religious importance for the villagers. They come here every year to perform special worship on Krishna Janmashtami and Navratri festival.

On looking at these rock paintings carefully, it is found that the human figure has been engraved in red and yellow colour on the layer of the huge rock, in which women, men and children are also visible on the lower part. The colours of these figures are so strong and indelible that they have not faded even after thousands of years. Apart from this, the marks of human hands are visible on the upper part of the rock paintings. On the left side of these human figures, a little above them, two more human-like figures are made, which look like an alien or a UFO. That is, in the said figures, various organs are visible from the feet to the head, but the hair on their heads appears completely different from human hair and only three fingers are visible in the feet and hands, which looks like a UFO. According to the information received, the State Archaeology and Culture Department is planning to take the help of NASA and ISRO to study these paintings.

Alien-like figures are a subject of research

According to the archaeologist, the creatures depicted in these paintings are quite similar to the aliens shown in Hollywood and Bollywood movies. There are different beliefs about these paintings among the local residents. Some people worship them, while others mention legends heard from their ancestors, including about ‘Rohela’ (small-sized creatures). The figures of the creatures in these paintings are holding objects like weapons, but their nose and mouth are not clear. In some pictures, they seem to be wearing space suits. It is also noteworthy that the flying cots shown in these paintings resemble UFOs with fan-like antenna and three-legged stand, as shown in the movies. The colors of these paintings are natural, which have not faded even after thousands of years. Although it is possible that it is the result of the imagination of prehistoric humans, more research is needed on this subject.
