Polling Regulations Enforced for Erode (East) By-Election

The voter registration process for the Erode (East) Assembly Constituency By-Election will be conducted on February 5, 2025, from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The registration process will be completed by 6:00 PM on February 3, 2025. In accordance with Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the following regulations will be enforced:

  1. No public meetings, processions, or any other forms of gatherings related to election campaigns will be allowed.
  2. The publication or broadcast of any election-related content—including advertisements, videos, speeches, debates, or campaign messages—through TV, FM radio, WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, or any other digital platform will be strictly prohibited. This includes SMS and other electronic communications.
  3. No political activities, meetings, or public gatherings that influence voters will be allowed within the constituency. Candidates and political workers must refrain from such activities. Any violation of these rules will be subject to punishment under Section 126(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, which includes imprisonment for up to two years, a fine, or both.
  4. All political party workers, campaign managers, and unauthorized persons must leave the constituency by 6:00 PM on February 3, 2025.
  5. Hotels, lodges, guest houses, and similar accommodations will be monitored to check for unauthorized political gatherings.
  6. All special permits issued to political candidates, including vehicle permits for election campaigns, will be revoked by 6:00 PM on February 3, 2025.
  7. On the day of voting, candidates will be allowed to use vehicles as per the following rules:
    • One vehicle for the candidate’s personal use.
    • One vehicle for the constituency election office.
    • One vehicle for campaign workers or party officials.
    • Vehicle permits will be issued by the designated election authority.
  8. No candidate or political party representative is allowed to transport voters to or from polling stations. Violation of this rule will be punishable under Section 133 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
  9. Campaign offices of political parties and candidates must be closed within 200 meters of polling stations. No unauthorized gatherings or press conferences will be permitted.
