Yogi govt’s NQAS certification move enhances public trust in govt hospitals

Lucknow : Under the leadership of the Yogi government, the certification of health facilities under the NQAS has significantly strengthened public confidence in government hospitals across Uttar Pradesh. The growing number of patients in OPDs, the rise in surgical procedures, and the increasing volume of diagnostic tests—from Ayushman Arogya Mandirs to District Hospitals—stand as testimony to the improved healthcare services in the state.

Thanks to the Yogi government’s farsighted policies, 1,059 health units in Uttar Pradesh have received NQAS certification so far.

Take, for instance, the Sarojini Nagar Community Health Center (CHC) in Lucknow. In 2022, fewer than 100 patients visited the OPD daily. Following its NQAS certification, the number has surged to 250–300 patients daily. The centre now houses a range of specialists, including a physician, gynaecologist, paediatrician, dental surgeon, and anesthesiologist. Enhanced cleanliness and upgraded facilities have made the CHC a preferred destination for patients from nearby areas such as Darogakheda, Banthra, Mohanlalganj, and Uttaretia.

According to Block Program Manager Swaraj Mohan, the proximity of the Sarojini Nagar Primary Health Center (PHC)—located adjacent to the CHC—has further boosted community confidence.

CHC in-charge Dr Chandan Yadav added that doctors from multiple disciplines also attend to patients at the PHC, contributing to a daily combined footfall of 400–500 patients. The hospital’s brand image, number of OPD consultations, admissions, and deliveries have all improved post-certification.

Following Bakshi Ka Talab, Sarojini Nagar CHC became the next in the district to receive the NQAS certification. The centre had already earned the ‘Lakshya’ and ‘Kayakalp’ honours. The hospital handles around 140–150 deliveries monthly, conducts 400 X-rays, and performs ultrasounds for 100 patients through the e-voucher system. It is also equipped with a blood storage unit for emergency cases.

Seven Ayushman Arogya Mandirs under Sarojini Nagar CHC have also achieved NQAS certification. The facility offers Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC), a Newborn Stabilization Unit (NBSU), online lab reports, telemedicine services, and over 200 essential medicines free of cost.

This growing trust in government healthcare is also evident at Mohanlalganj CHC and several other certified units.

Dr. Pinky Jowel, Mission Director of the National Health Mission (NHM), stated that the state’s goal is to have 50% of health facilities NQAS-certified by the end of the year. She added, “Preparations are being accelerated across all districts to meet this target. “

NHM General Manager Dr. Shahzad Ahmed added that facilities, from Ayushman Arogya Mandirs to PHCs and CHCs, are being upgraded in accordance with NQAS standards.

In the words of beneficiaries

“Earlier, we used to go to private clinics near Lokbandhu or Aashiyana for treatment. But now, Sarojini Nagar CHC provides better care, so we prefer going there.”
Shreyanshi Shukla, Daroga Kera

Government hospitals have seen remarkable improvements. I recently had the privilege of having my wife deliver at Haroni Primary Health Center, where all necessary medical care was provided, and both mother and child are doing well.
