Qatar Condemns Drone Attacks on Saudi Oil Facilities, Reaffirms Full Support for Kingdom

Doha, July 2026 : Qatar on Monday strongly condemned the attempted drone attacks targeting oil facilities in Saudi Arabia, describing them as a serious violation of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and a threat to regional security and stability.

In an official statement posted on X, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the attacks on oil installations located in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province and the Riyadh region. The ministry said the drones were launched from Iraqi territory and termed the incident a blatant breach of international law, the United Nations Charter, and the principles of good neighbourliness.

“The State of Qatar strongly condemns the attacks that attempted to target oil facilities in the Eastern Province and Riyadh regions in the sisterly Arab Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with drones launched from Iraqi territory. These attacks constitute a flagrant violation of Saudi sovereignty and pose a direct threat to its security and stability,” the ministry said.

Qatar reiterated its unwavering solidarity with Saudi Arabia and affirmed its support for all legitimate measures taken by the Kingdom to safeguard its sovereignty, national security, and critical infrastructure.

The condemnation came shortly after Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defence announced that its air defence systems had successfully intercepted and destroyed several drones attempting to strike key oil facilities.

According to Defence Ministry spokesperson Turki Al-Malki, Saudi air defence units detected and neutralised multiple drones over the past several hours before they could reach their intended targets. He alleged that the drones had been launched from Iraqi territory by Iranian-backed militias.

Al-Malki said Saudi Arabia reserves the right to take all necessary measures to protect its territory, strategic resources, and citizens against such hostile acts. He stressed that the Kingdom would respond appropriately to any threats targeting its national security.

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also strongly condemned the attempted attacks, describing them as an assault on regional stability and international energy security.

As of Monday evening, no armed group operating in Iraq had claimed responsibility for the drone strikes.

The latest incident has renewed concerns over the use of Iraqi territory as a launch point for attacks against neighbouring countries. In response to previous cross-border drone incidents, the Iraqi government had established a special coordination committee on May 20 to work closely with Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates on security matters.

Following the formation of the committee, Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief Ali al-Zaidi chaired the first meeting of the Ministerial Council for National Security. Government spokesperson Sabah al-Numan said the council directed authorities to take all necessary legal and security measures if investigations confirmed that Iraqi territory had been used to launch attacks on neighbouring states.

The attempted strikes come amid heightened tensions across the Middle East, where repeated attacks on critical energy infrastructure have raised concerns about regional security and the safety of global energy supplies. Qatar’s strong statement underscores growing regional support for protecting vital infrastructure and maintaining stability in the Gulf amid evolving security challenges.
