Washington, July 2026 : US President Donald Trump on Monday asserted that the United States continues to hold a significant technological advantage over China in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), as his administration examines allegations that Chinese AI firms may have benefited from American technology through unauthorised model distillation.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One while travelling to Michigan, Trump stressed that maintaining America’s leadership in AI remains a top strategic priority for his administration. His remarks came in response to a question about recent comments by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who said the administration would investigate whether Chinese developers were using outputs from advanced American AI systems to train their own models.

“Well, you know, they’re looking at us, and we’re looking at them. But we’re leading China substantially in AI. And we’re going to keep it that way,” Trump said.

Repeating his confidence in the country’s technological superiority, the President added, “We’re going to keep it that way.”
