Yesterday’s Low Pressure Area over Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast lay as a Well-Marked Low Pressure Area over the same region at 0530 hours IST and persisted over the same region at 0830 hours IST of today, the 28th May 2025. It is likely to move slowly northwards and concentrate into a Depression over north Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours.

Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is very likely over North and adjoining central Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha, West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts on 28th May. Wind speed would gradually increase becoming 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph on 29th May over this region. Thereafter, wind speed would decrease gradually from 30th May onwards over this region.  

Sea Condition:

Sea condition is very likely to be rough to very rough over north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha, West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts during 28th – 30th May.

Fishermen warnings:

Fishermen are advised not to venture into north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal and along

& off Odisha, West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts till 31st May (Morning).

Port warning:  

Local Cautionary Signal No. 3 hoisted at Haldia and Kolkata Port with sectional Signal No. 1

hosted at Sagar Island.    

Possible Impact for Thunderstorm & Lightning and Heavy rainfall:

• Breaking of tree branches, uprooting of small trees like banana, papaya, drum sticks in

coastal districts.  

• Some damages of standing crops, vegetables and horticulture.  
• Possibility of lightning strike especially in open field.
• Temporary water logging in low lying area and possibility of wall collapsed of vulnerable

Kutcha houses, Minor damages to vulnerable structure, Kutcha road, huts etc.

• Onshore and offshore operations may get affected, small ships, trawlers and boats may be

affected.  

• Traffic disruption in urban areas.  
• Occasional reduction of visibility (less than 1 km) in the hilly region of North Bengal due to

low cloud/valley fog.  

• Possibility of landslides in the hilly region of Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts.  

Action suggested for Thunderstorm & Lightning and Heavy rainfall:

• People are advised to keep a watch on the weather for worsening conditions and be ready to move to safer places accordingly.
• Take shelter in safe place during thunderstorm activity.  
• Avoid taking shelter under tree/electric pole and avoid contact with water bodies.  
• Avoid staying in vulnerable Kutcha houses and movement in low lying areas prone to water

logging.  

• Tourism and recreational activities to be regulated.
• Onshore and offshore activities, Ferry services to be judiciously regulated.
• Helicopter services to be regulated.
